Customer Questions & Answers

How often to the batteries need to be changed?

Asked by: Mk
Batteries usually last at least a year. I test the device 6 or more times each year and always change the battery when we change the clocks in the fall.

Why does my smoke alarm keep beeping?

Asked by: Sherry
maybe out of date, some manufacturers have a specified time that these detectors are good for, so they may beep even if you change the battery

Full alarm sound after AC connection

Followed the installation instructions and installed two of these alarms in the basement. They tested ok with only battery power. I then turned on the AC power and the alarms sounded their full blast alarms continuously and refused to stop. I found some reset procedures on the FIREX site, followed those instructions but did not make a difference. The full alarm just came on as soon as I turned on the power at the circuit breaker panel. Any suggestion/help would be greatly appreciated as to how to silence this unnecessary alarm. We have one more of these smoke alarms, plus 3 combo ones to install upstairs. If this alarm doesn't go away, all 6 will have to go back to Home Depot. Thanks.
Asked by: Gadgeteer
This happened to me, I had a wire nut that was loose on the neutral wire and all the alarms sounded on AC power, I reconnected the wire after I found it and the problem stopped immediately. I have lost power in the house sense then and no alarm. I am sure that was the problem in my case.

Hardwired 120-Volt Inter-Connectable Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product, poor display in store It was just the smoke alarm I needed to replace an old one. But the display in the store was so confusing it took me 20 minutes to figure out which one to buy. Seemed to be pushing alarms in hard bubble packs for different places in house, but there was no way to figure out the connector to see if it would match my existing connector. This one did and was cheaper as it was on a lower shelf and was labeled for contractors. Shame on Home Depot for not being the warehouse store they were when they started.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had Issues Make sure you check that the battery is inserted correctly from the factory prior to pulling the activation strip. Believe the reversed 9V shorted out the detector. No fixing it, had to exchange. New one is working fine.

I have eleven smoke detectors in my house and would guess every one has been replaced over the eight years we've had them. They seem to randomly go off, usually in the middle of the night, and the first department says to just replace the whole device when that happens so I buy when they're on sale and keep several spares on hand.

Good product, and fairly simple to replace existing ionization alarms with. About the only thing that would have made it easier for replacement would be if the plugins for the wires on the back were the same as the older original hardwired ionization version of smoke detectors that were the same FireX brand.

The only bad news; is that all smoke detectors must have battery back up; so you do have the maintenance factor built in today. I would buy again.
