The question was asked earlier if it was possible to couple sections to make runs longer than 8 feet. What wasn't answered was HOW to couple them. My stairs have a run that is over 10 feet. How do I connect 2 sections?

Customer Reviews

Axxys 8 ft. Stair Rail Kit is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Mixed Feelings - Good product, but the company needs to tweak some things I have very mixed feelings about this product. Some aspects are great, others were not. In the end I'm happy with how it turned out, but there was some serious frustration with the product along the way. Pros: Quality wood, nice metal handrail hardware, baluster quality, adjustable connections to hand and shoe rail eliminate some angle math, packaging shipped well, price for the content Cons: Very cheap screws, some hardware is plastic - would look better metal, directions are very wrong at parts, Quality control - one of my shoe rails was drilled completely off center and had to be drilled by hand, they give you zero extra parts - not even one extra screw. This kit is barely easier than buying separate parts, so don't let simple in the name fool you. However, it really isn't more expensive than buying parts either, so in that sense you don't have much to lose monetarily. You still have to figure out your own math, cuts, stain, finish, etc. The instructions are awful, way to short and completely wrong at parts. ***Most Important Part of the Review*** DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION'S MATH ON CUT DISTANCE FROM THE NEWEL POST FOR THE SHOE RAIL! It is wrong and will leave you with very slanted balusters. I installed two kits and measured 5x each to make sure I followed their advice and it is dead wrong. YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR OWN MATH FOR A LEVEL END PRODUCT. The instructions are next to worthless and probably do more harm than good in the end. Buy some nice stainless screws and don't use theirs. I don't know what kind of Chinese pot metal these screws are made out of but a rubber screwdriver would strip the heads. The worst. These kits would be a time-saver for a large construction project where you have to install lots and lots of stair and level railings. Once a crew installed 2 or 3 of these it would become a much faster and easier process with each one. For a homeowner doing one the time-savings are questionable. In the end this can make a fine railing, just don't expect it to be any easier than a piecemeal standard install. Mine are sturdy and look good in the end. If the company tweaked some things this could easily be a solid 4 star product. As it stands, it is almost a box of stair parts for the same price as separate stair parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Looking finished product Easy to install with good printed instructions and video on the Axxys' website. Feels very strong when all assembled. I stained the product first to save time with assembling it instead of roughing it in. I would recommend taking the time to rough it in, then stain it as the railings splintered quite a bit and I had to sand and re-stain, even with a new blade on my miter saw. The screws provided are junk. I twisted off quite a few heads, even with my low-torque setting. Make sure you use longer screws than provided to secure the toe rail down through to the floor. I have an oak board below and pre-drilled through the brackets. Make sure you use an angle as the metal rails scratch easy if the drill touches them. The plastic brackets will crack if you over tighten. The railings and post are all two pieces glued together so there can be some variation, but they do a good job to minimize it. Overall I was very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to anyone. Easy do-it-yourself project.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Waaaaay harder to install than the description ! The instructions and Utube video both miss major steps and make it seems much easier to install than it really is. The quality is fair, the pivoting brackets are plastic. Once complete it does look pretty nice, but it takes some effort to get done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Kit Great kit, easy installation. Would have like to have all 60 screws for the railing poles and the other 20 for securing the rail to the floor. Since I put up only to pass FHA it will be coming down. I would purchase another if I needed to install again. Looks very nice. I rated it fair because it lacked all the components. Needed to get it up in a hurry and was fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Easy and great looking when finished. Had to glue the black screw covers on the top rail, or they would fall out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Missing Parts I purchased what I thought to be a COMPLETE kit to install. After waiting 4 weeks for delivering, neither kit (the handrail or the stair rail) included the newel post.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked with extreme effort Not easy to install. Would have been just as easy to buy spindles rails and custom do the job. Ultimately it worked. Took maybe 7 hours for one person to install Would not buy again. The dilemma is that there are no better options that I could find.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely Poor Quality Materials - Horrible Directions I was very excited about this product, as there aren't many similar kits on the market. I am no novice to home renovations and construction. I am in the final stages of finishing my basement, and was looking forward to installing these kits. First, the instructions are horrible. They come on a small square of paper, are printed extremely poorly, and the text size is very small. The instructions gloss over major steps. For example, "determine baluster height." This is not a simple step, and you would think they would give you some guidance. Secondly, the process of installing this kit is no easier then buying and installing all the individual parts. The overall process was very difficult and complex. Now, I am not saying it is rocket science, it's just that you expect a "kit" to be at least as straightforward as assembling the thing from scratch. Last, and most importantly, the quality of the materials is horrible. Many of the pieces are plastic. Also, Numerous screws and bolts provided in the kit stripped instantly (and I was using the appropriate size bits and pushing squarely against the bolt/screws -- This was not user error). For the price tag, I expect MUCH better. I would not recommend this product, and would never purchase again.
