dual glass

is the second glass pane have air space between or is it just sandwiched together?
Asked by: maxrey
The Laminated glass pane (inner pane) is sandwiched together with a layer of vinyl in the center. The air space between the Laminated inner pane and the Tempered outer pane is filled with argon gas. Thank you.

meaning the 44' L side parrallell w/ the roof hip? the Velux catalog indicates that it should be installed as such, but your web-site photo shows it as vertically, w the 27" dimension parrallel w/ the roof hip. Lastly, does the price include the flashing kit and 'ice & water" barrier?

44-1/4 in. x 26-7/8 in. Fixed Deck-Mount Skylight with Laminated Low-E3 Glass is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This is a nice, high quality kit. It installed easily, and I was impressed with the quality of the flashing kit it included. There is no way I would have been able to fabricate a flashing that fit as perfectly. I'm a professional carpenter, but I think these kits turn this into a project that would be a pretty easy for a novice. The written instructions are explicit and easy to understand, and the kit includes everything you need. The only thing I would add is that I recommend using stainless steel roofing nails; they cost a couple dollars more, but will last multiple times longer. Also it's a good idea to use Gracie ice and water shield or other high quality ice dam if you live in an area that gets much moisture.

I have installed this horizontally on a 10 foot ceiling and the light coming in from the North Side of my house, in Chicago, is great. Because it is so high up and on the north side I do not get a great view of trees or sky. If you are installing in a similar location I would recommend 45 x 45, or do multiple skylights mounted vertically. The product went in as expected, and with much rain I have not had any leaks. I did hire a professional roofer to install.

Installed 4 of these while having my roof redone. With the sheathing off and the joists exposed it was the perfect time. Using Velux's sheathing kits, the installation was quick, leak-proof, and professional in appearance. My roofing contractor was familiar with the product and offered a few tips too. I love having these and only wish I'd added more.

I have had these ones for 11 years (which replaced a similar one of 21 years) and here's the low down. The first one leaked after 21 years mostly due to a new roof put on and roofers didn't do a good job of flashing/finishing around it. My 11 year old one leaked after an ice dam and the dam removers chopped up and destroyed the roof around the skylight which caused it to leak. So new roof, properly ice/snow and finished, still looking good. What I've come to find out: I would never be without my skylights. Great for north facing rooms and windowless rooms like baths. Back in the day (32 years ago) I don't know if they knew how to properly install many skylights and over the years the flashing and installation instructions have improved tremendously. I hear a lot 'don't put in skylights' yet when I hear it it is usually from people that had improperly installed or cheap icky ones, or, have just heard it through the grapevine from others (from years past). Velux is a good brand and they really care about proper installation with their flashing. For what you get the price is extremely reasonable (I added an option of the built-in interior blind on south facing ones that I can close/semi-close when needed, but I hear now they have programmable ones - really cool). On my north skylights they never need any kind of blinds as they get no direct sunlight but allow so much light in my dark north facing kitchen that I don't need lights turned on until dusk. Properly installed, they will last for years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick delivery! Quick delivery and a good quality. No skylights are easy to install. There replaced two leaking units from the same manufacturer that were over 15 years old. Dimensions were slightly different. The old units had a built in vent that they no longer make. Did fit with minor work to interior drywall being required.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality product, clear installation instructions, great value for the money. We had two installed by our roofer. He said that these were the first Velux skylights that he's installed, and that the quality and flashing kits were much improved over the ones he'd done in the past. He has over 25 years experience as a roofer and has installed all types of skylights...he said that these were top-notch and he was pleased with the multi-layered leak protection. From the outside, the skylights have a low profile and they look clean and modern. I have an homeowner's association and they would not have allowed me to use the big white bubble type skylights; these look nicer and they blend in nicely. It rained the day after installation, and several times since then. No leaks and the water just rolls right off. From the inside, I love all the natural light. The light is not hot and there are no ultra-bright spots in the room. I love standing in my kitchen, looking up and watching the clouds roll by. One night, I got up and noticed a bright light in my kitchen. It was the full moon glowing through the skylight. I plan to buy and install the solar shades before summer comes. I love that the Velux skylights have the clips pre-installed, so that all I'll have to do is snap them in. I wanted skylights over my kitchen for more than 10 years. My only regret is that I waited so long. These are gorgeous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome skylight and get the remote blind I got this skylight size but for a flat roof. I also got the programmable remote shade and am so glad I did. This thing works great and you can program hundreds of settings. I have it programmed every hour during the day so it closes little by little to keep the sun off of furniture but still gives you light and fully closed for an hour or two then back open. If you don't like the program or its a cloudy day just hit the remote to open it all the way. The service reps with VELUX are great. I could get through to them every time on the phone anytime I had a question with programming and very helpful. After about 11/2 years I was having a problem with the blind motor and talked to the rep on the phone and they sent me a brand new blind unit. I had my contractor install the first one and didn't want to mess it up so I was willing to pay Velux to install for me. I called them back and said I want a Velux trained guy to install it and the rep came out and installed for free since it was still in the warranty period. The Velux Rep also told me that who ever did the flashing did not do it correctly and should get it fix and showed my why. The only thing was weird with there service call is that you have to give them your CC number and precharge $150 and that worried me a little since they said they would do it for free, but they did not charge me.
