Active Ventilation Products’ off ridge vent product line, the Universal Vent, is a multi-purposed vent that can be used as an air exhaust or intake vent when installed on a sloped roof. This off ridge roof vent or dormer vent has a low profile design that looks pleasing on shingled roofs and parapet walls. Its hooded vent design and horizontal louvers will keep out rain and snow. The 1/8 in. opening between the horizontal louvers blades will keep out insects, birds, and animals. When used as an exhaust vent, it is engineered to allow heat and moisture to escape. When placed on the roof but at the low end of a pitched roof, it can be used as an air intake vent like a soffit vent. This off ridge roof vent is also excellent for parapet walls. It will allow the heat and moisture that can build up within the parapet wall to escape preserving the longevity of the building structure. Made of rust free aluminum, the Universal Vent is durable and can withstand harsh weather. Model UV-60-BL is powder coated with an electrostatic charge in black finish. The powder coating finish adheres extremely well and is more difficult to remove than wet paint which adds to the vents durability and long lasting clean appearance. The Universal Vent is an excellent choice to serve your ventilation needs.
  • Excellent choice to removing radiant heat from attic spaces
  • Helps to keep insulation dry in the winter
  • Black powder coating finish is significantly greater at resisting scratching, chipping, and oxidation
  • Size of each individual louver section: 3-3/4 in. x 2-1/2 in. (W x H)
  • Number of louver sections: 8
  • Ventilation rule 1:300, application per sq. ft.: 250 sq. ft.
  • Net free air space: 60 sq. in.
  • Pitch capacity range: 3/12 to 24/12 (vertical wall)
  • Louver design does not allow accumulation of particle build up as found in using an insect screen
  • Roof opening: 2-1/2 in. x 32 in. (W X L)
  • Helps to reduce energy costs

Is there a way to install this in a valley to intake air to vent the dormer rafters (output through a ridge vent)?
Asked by: Brian
Probably not, there might not be enough air circulation in a valley. These can be mounted from 45 degrees to 90 degrees.

2" wide x 32" long should be the cut in the roof for this vent.

How do you attach it to the roof

Asked by: Jdj
The instructions call for the side and upper flange bottoms to have sealant applied before slipping it under the shingles. The lower flange is secured with screws spaced 6 inches apart. Because the bottom of the vent is not flat (and cannot be made that way) I decided to use extra screws out on the side flanges to keep them down. You need either a long screwdriver or about a 4 inch extension for a power drill bit to set the screws. Then use roofing cement under the shingles to keep them down.

47 in. x 3 in. x 9.5 in. Aluminum Off Ridge Roof Vent in Black Powder Coat is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Aluminum Ridge Vent I installed this product on my existing roof, which did not require new shingles. Along with the soffit vents I installed, this vent provided adequate ventilation in my attic space and effectively helped prevent ice damming in the Wisconsin Winter months. Easy to install

The vent is a decent value and made with good materials, but it is poorly manufactured. The bottom of the vent is not flat and will not lay flat. The metal fold below the vent holes curves down below the vent flanges a good half inch. This curve cannot be bent out without damaging the entire structure. Fortunately my shingles are quite thick, otherwise I would have had a terrible time getting the vent to stay down. As it is, I had to use screws on the ends of the side flanges to make sure they stayed down. The installation instructions that came with the vent are very poor.

Think of it as a long camping tent with one side open. To keep it open there are vertical bars welded in place. Some of the bars are not welded. I have only inspected 2 of 8 ordered, problems. The shipping and packing of the items, and box arrived in un-crushed condition. The problem is with the Manufacture. The local Home Depot does not stock this item for exchange. I may have to re-manufacture as the time table does not allow return. Get the maker to supply a "quality inspection report", once a month to the buyers at HD. Being an Engineer / purchasing agent....this is done all the time ....for customer satisfaction. Best regards, Robert Paterson
