Nice, safe, powerful heater
I bought mine like new, but from a neighbor, fully assembled. I use it for heat when my gas is shut off during the late spring and the fall, but I still have my window AC units installed. Also, garage heat. Not a cheap source of heat, but reliable.

The product I would recommend, Home Depot's online store, I cannot! The box was destroyed and re-taped. The unit I received was used and still had half a gallon of Kerosene in it and a burnt wick. I paid for a new unit. Is it too much to ask that I get what I paid full price for, not something that was returned or even refreshed?

This worked like a charm a two times with no issues, but the 3rd time it sent soot everyware in the room. As shown in the photos. I did return it to Home Depot and they refunded me. but still I need to redo the walls, carpet, bed, and so on. So I do NOT recommend this item.

DO NOT BUY BATTERIES for this thing because it devours them after a few uses. Buy barbecue lighers and use them to light the wick instead and save the batteries as a back up. Also, buy a few bottles of the kerosene wick conditioner to greatly extend the wick life and reduce the odor. Use an empty 1K bottle to store the siphon away from contaminants. Highly recommended for heat on a budget!

The DuraHeat was easy to assemble and worked right out of the box. It looks good but the product in the picture is not the same unit as they eliminated the foot pedal in the front to lift the ring so you cannot light it manually without opening the door grabbing the pigtail and lifting it while lighting the wick (see photo). Also the glow plug is a bit touchy. If you push the handle over to the end of the slot (to initiate the glow plug) the glow becomes weak and will not light the wick. You need to watch the glow plug as you push it's handle (switch) over and stop at the brightest point to light the wick. Very important - you have keep adjusting the wick down in the first couple of hours to maintain the 1/2 inch flame height or you will burn up you fuel in a hurry and burn the wick. See the instruction booklet (poorly written IMHO) Aside from those little quirks it does heat the garage very well. I would also recommend buying a blue 5 gallon fuel container and getting the kerosene from a oil/gas station in bulk as the single gallons at THD are pretty pricey. And bonus as of this writing the 5 gallon blue fuel containers are on close out right now for 10 bucks at THD.

Very pleased! Super duper pleased, actually. To my surprise, there is absolutely no odor when this is lit. Of course when you shut it off there is a slight odor, but I shut it off outside. This starts quick and is ready to bring inside in a couple of minutes, unlike some of the radiant units where the catalytic converter has to glow red before you can bring it inside, otherwise you get the odor. This unit throws out the heat. I heat a 1200 square foot 1950's block home in greater Huntsville, AL where temps at night fall to 20-32 degrees F. My home has no insulation, block walls, furring strips and drywall. Yes, I am kicking myself in the --- for not having an inspection when I bought the house. I paid cash for the house and left that up to me. I think this is the best Kerosene heater on the market. Only use crystal clear K1 Kerosene.
