How big is this?

It’s on small side, about 7 inches round and high.

Can you hardwire this instead of plug? Also, what is the neck type for the lamp shade? Can I swap...

It comes with a 110V plug. You may have to cut the plug if you want to hardwire it. The neck is slightly more than 1" diameter. It sits under the light bulb. If you can find a glass shade for it (may not be easy), I think you can swap.

How do you loosen up an overly tight swing arm?

Asked by Mary September 17, 2020

Answers

I bought 2 of these lamps and one was very tight at the "shoulder" joint. I just forced it to slowly rotate back and forth. Some rusty dust (could be paint) came out and now it moves. I suggest not to overdo on this or it won't stay put later.

What size hole needs to be drilled for the anchors?

Start with a 1/8 inch drill bit. The anchors should fit nice and snug.

How long is the cord?

1" plug, 60" open cord, 12" cord covered by square tube.

The on/off switch has stopped working. Is it possible to replace it?

Hello, After ensuring the lamp is de-energized, one*, with only a screw driver, should be able to: 1) find a leviton replacement lamp socket or equivalent at HD, see bottom figure of attached photo (although, I believe one just needs the socket depicted in top figure from the attached photo) 2) First safety step-unplug the lamp from the wall outlet 3) remove the bulb and shade 4) loosen the bulb socket outer housing, remove and save 5) remove and save the cardboard sleeve 6) if necessary, unscrew/lift the existing socket (not the wires at this time) see upper figure from attached photo 7) Second safer step- mark (sharpie type) the hot wire and hot screw terminal, or mark one of the wires and take photos to document which wire goes to which screw terminal for guidance when you re-wire the new socket 8) one at a time, unscrew each of the two wire terminal screws until the wires are free to slide out from under the loosened screws NOTE: steps 9 and 10 may not be necessary if you’re able to replace just the upper figure socket from the photo. If so, skip to step 11 9) you may need to un-tie a simple knot in the wire pair to facilitate removal of the old socket base 10) feed the wires through the new socket base, secure/screw the socket base and re-tie the simple knot 11) reference upper figure from attached photo, loosen the new socket screw terminals, match the hot wire and the neutral wire to their respective sockets. 12) Third safety step-one at a time, feed each exposed (copper) wire clockwise around it’s terminal and tighten with the screw driver so that the exposed wire is held firmly beneath the terminal screw head 13)Fourth safety step- if you have electrical tape, I like to wrap once around the socket base to cover the hot terminal screw location, place cardboard sleeve from step 5 (or a new cardboard sleeve from the replacement socket) back over the socket, you’ll see the cutout for the switch shaft 14) place/secure the socket outer housing from step 4 use the slot for the switch shaft to align 15) screw on lamp shade 16) install bulb 17) plug into wall socket and check function * Qualified electrician or safe DIY person.

The attached tube cord is a little over 1/4" and it is brown metal. You could add cord cover below.

You can set mounting screws from 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 in apart. One of the holes gives you room to wriggle. The mounting screws are located just left and right off the round finishing screws at the root of the arm in the photo. So the plate covers them and probably would cover the existing holes that you have. Beware that included anchors are for drywall 3/4 in thick.

These lamps are great for the sale price. They are small, look neat, inexpensive but not too cheap and function well. Assembly was super easy but install was challenging. The included anchors did not work for my 1/2" drywall. They are good for 3/4". I ended up using leftover anchors from the closet shelves kit and screws that were included with the lamp. The same anchors can be found at HD too https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hillman-3-8-in-Pop-Toggle-with-Screw-6-Pack-376255/202243047 . These are great heavy duty anchors. I have been using them often replacing loose anchors previous owner put in.

Perfect Bedroom Wall Lamps
I looked for a long time for just the right swing arm lamp to put above the bed in our master bedroom. When I saw these in a Home Depot store, I knew they were what I was looking for. I had to order online, but shipping was fast! The lamps are very nice quality considering the low price. Bases and cord covers are metal and the shades are fabric-covered. The size is just perfect. Also like that they will handle up to a 100 watt bulb. Installation was a breeze and only took a few minutes. Am so glad I found these lamps!

Great Value
I was looking at similar ones at the Pottery Barn which cost three times as much. These look beautiful, but there were a few issues. On one of the lamps one of the parts used to tighten the lamp would not tighten. We ended up taping it with electrical tape since it could not be seen once installed and did not feel like going through the hassle of returning it. On the same lamp one of the lampshades is also just slightly askew which bothers my OCD, but it's not that bad. Installation was a breeze and the price was right. I was expecting much worse from the previous reviews, but decided to give these a shot. Glad I did.
