Questions & Answers

My remote controls both the light and fan, will Bond control both as well?

Asked by: scu31698
Yes, you'll be able to control both the fan speeds and the light independently. Bond supports virtually any RF remote. But be warned that you may not be able to dim the lights if the remote uses the same button for on/off and dimming.

If I have wink remote control will this work or will I need to purchase a different fan remote for it work?

Basically I want to buy a fan, but I don't know if I can purchase one of the fans with a wink remote or other remote. Thanks.
Asked by: Thanksforanswering
Your Wink remote probably can't be used with Bond. It is likely using wifi to connect to a Wink hub, which Bond can't copy. But if you have a Wink hub, you can probably use other means to control your device via Wink.

how do I know if my ceiling fan is compatible?

I read in the reviews that it is not compatible with all ceiling fans. Does anyone know I might find out?
Asked by: redneckfoxgirl
I think the only way to truly find out is to try to connect the device. As long as its a remote control fan it should work.

With this let you change direction of the fan (Summer?Winter)?

With this let you change direction of the fan (Summer?Winter)?
Asked by: William
Only if your remote supports it. If the fan only has a physical switch, you would still need to physically change the switch. It works fine if it is a simple toggle switch on the remote (toggles between clockwise and counterclockwise). If the remote has separate buttons for summer and winter (which the Fanimation Covert 64 does with the TR205 remote), then setup doesn't handle automatically and there is not a good way to setup with a non standard remote like this. You can manually program app buttons using the remote, but they can't be relabeled, so not really practical to use as hard to remember. I have put in feature request to Bond to add ability to customize button names. The app on your smart phone supports it, not sure about whether the Alexa skill supports reversing direction.

Customer Reviews

Latham 52 in. LED Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan with Light Kit Works with Google Assistant and Alexa is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 257.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this fan. I had a Hampton Bay 52"... I love this fan. I had a Hampton Bay 52" before, but it had no remote, and no Bond. The Bond ships separately, but the fan and remote are in the same box. Installation was easy and a breeze. The fan pushes air very well in an average sized bedroom. It might not do as well in a 20 x 20 room. The Bond set-up was a Breeze. Once it syncs and learns the remote, you are good to go. It only learns specific functions, but that is more than you really need, i.e. "Lights Off, Speed Low, Speed Medium, Speed High" or however you configure it. I have the lights set-up with Phillips Hue Color Bulbs (9.5 Watts if I remember). So they work perfectly here. I just go "Alexa, Fan Lights Off" and they shut perfectly. Great for when you fall asleep and can't find the remote. Overall, the value is there in buying this fan with Bond. Well worth the upgrade for me.

Unfortunately is not ready to replace my remotes. It's buggy and doesn't work when you need it to. The only time the remote doesn't work is when the batteries die. So win goes to the original remote. Set up is complicated, device editing is very limited. For example it finds my fans remotes just fine however the recommended layout is missing some key functions. Ok, so then you try to make a generic device so you can add the missing functions to it yourself right? Not so fast, generic device has some of the missing functions but is missing other functions that were available from the database device. So you can have some function or other functions but not all functions! That would be silly...yesterday the fireplace device stopped working through Alexa...after 30 minutes of chat with support, end result??? fireplace is still not working with Alexa. My original remote even though an eye sore hanging around an end table just works. I guess its asking too much to have the bond hub just work.

I started with Wink and quickly switched to Smartthings. The one problem area is ceiling fans. The current solution for non wireless fans seems to be a zwave switch but many expensive fans like Emerson have a wall control but it talks wireless to the fan so before BOND there was no way to integrate it into your smart home solution. While Bond doesn't really integrate with SmartThings it can be used. For example I have a open two story family room and if I don't have the fan going reverse in the winter it can be 10 degrees warmer upstairs than downstairs. My goal was to get bond to turn on my ceiling fan when Ecobee was heating. Two products with smartthings support that would take 5 min. This required some creativity. I created an IFTTT account and linked my Smartthings Hub and Bond account to it. In smartthings I created a virtual dimmer switch called Family Room Fan. In IFTTT I added the virtual switch and told IFTTT that when the Virtual Dimmer was on to tell Bond to turn on my ceiling fan x%. This allowed me to have a virtual switch to control my ceiling fan. From there I was able to tell Webcore (Similar to IFTTT but much more powerful platform in the smartthings community.) So when Ecobee turns on heating it tell smartthings to turn on the virtual dimmer which tells IFTTT to tell Bond to turn on the ceiling fan. Overly complicated but it works great. If and when BOND supports Smartthings I think this product will be a game changer. Sadly one more Hub to add to my wall of smart home hubs.

It works perfectly with my new ceiling fan allowing me to connect it to my Amazon echo for voice control as well as controlling the fan from my cell phone if I choose. Even better, the Bond remote is able to connect up to 6 RF remotes for other devices.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very pleased with the fan interface and control. Through Bond... Very pleased with the fan interface and control. Through Bond Alexa is controlling five fans in our house. The only negative issue, which I accept as a fan control issue instead of a Bond issue, is the “state” tracking when mixing Alexa with the standard remote for lights.

It's not perfect, with respect to the buttons that show up on the app once paired but it does a really good job of guessing and working with the 2 fan types that I purchased. Worked as expected and now I can use Google voice to control my fans. Awesome!

Beware: When connecting the BOND to your WiFi network, there may be problems if the network name or password contain the information below. We are working to provide a fix for this and will provide an update when it is ready. apostrophe (') back-tick (`) 14-character passwords ending in W 64-character passwords very long passwords (for example, 63 characters) comma , The above was from BOND on December 09, 2017 11:55. So don't expect a fix. I have a long complicated password it did not work. So I tried another shorter password under 50 bytes. I wanted to use special characters but refrained from using any on their unsupported list so I used $./#:) and still no luck. I tried the complicated directions for manual setup via the browser instead of the BOND app, nope. If you buy just be prepared to find a password that will work with BOND and then reset all of your other devices to this new password. It wasn't worth it for me. Thank you Home Depot for allowing me to return it.
