I have an aluminum roof over my back porch has pin holes, leaks where it meets my shingled roof can I use this for leaks

Asked by mimi January 8, 2019

Answer

You can use the Henry 181 fabric with our Henry 209XR Extreme Rubberized Wet Patch to seal the leak at the seam between you porch roof and shingled roof. Then, if you wanted to you could use one of our aluminum coatings (Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum-12 YR Warranty or Henry 555 Aluminum-7 YR Warranty) to coat over it after 30 days. Here are links to both products: https://us.henry.com/roofing/mastics-and-cements/209-extreme-wet-patch-roof-leak-repair/ ; https://us.henry.com/roofing/reflective-coatings/aluminum-roof-coatings/ Thanks for putting your trust in the Henry Company and Home Depot.

Jay-Yes, absolutely. But instead, I would recommend the 900 Construction Sealant and Adhesive. It comes out gray, is in a caulking tube, has a Lifetime Warranty and would be easier to use than wet patch/fabric. I have included a link below for you that contains more information. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Company and The Home Depot. https://us.henry.com/roofing/roofing-sealants/900-flashing-and-construction-sealant-gray

Answer

Cdelight-What you need is the asphalt saturated fiberglass fabric(either the black or yellow). What you got was the polyester fabric, which is used with our white roofing sealant(289). You should NOT use this with solvent based products. Please let us know if you have any additional questions and thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Company and The Home Depot.

I am doing a repair in cold weather, what temp should this product be applied

Asked by David February 2, 2017

Temp doesn't matter with the mesh but it does with the roof cement you're using so go by what they recommend. I use a Henry 208 wet patch cement and i just used it in sub-freezing weather and it worked fine.

Is this a mesh or is it solid with no holes through it? Is it flexible enough to bend and stay at...

It's a fabric mesh to add strength. Apply a layer of roof cement, embed this product and then add another layer for a topcoat.

It was easy to use. I just applied it over the crack where my flat roof line meets the siding. Covered with roof cement. Did not see a leak yet. Well, there was just some snow since and no real rain.

I had over 125' linear feet of repairs to make with a repair fabric and Henrys 208R, and the price point of this repair fabric is significantly lower than the "yellow" version (Henry 183 yellow fiberglass 6"). Initially I was pleased with how it worked, but as I had worked I had to deal with an unexpected problem: strands/threads of this fabric unraveling from the edges of the fabric creating a stringy mess as you worked the product into your repair. These asphalt products are messy enough to begin with without having to work around this issue as well. Even being careful to cut any threads off before laying down a new section, new threads would come loose as you worked the asphalt into the product. And then as you continued to work your material, you'd catch the thread--sometimes still attached to some fabric you've already embedded-- and pull some of that so that you had to go over it again. The last time I was in Home Depot I gave a closer look to the Henry 183 yellow fabric, and it appears much 'thicker' with more stable/rigid edges, so it seems less likely to have this problem. If I were doing it again--certainly for smaller jobs where the cost difference is minimal--I'd go with the yellow Henry 183 and not have to deal with the threads/stringy mess of this product.
