Product Overview

Henry 887 Tropi-Cool 100% Silicone White Roof Coating is a premium, 100% silicone, moisture-cure coating designed to reflect the sun's heat and UV rays as well as protect many types of roofs. While suitable for use in all climates, the 100% silicone chemistry is especially suited for extreme tropical environments, which are exposed to some of the hottest and wettest weather with intense UV exposure. It is specially designed to maintain maximum reflectivity of heat and UV rays as it ages. Its moisture-cure chemistry creates a very aggressive chemical bond with the roof, which allows for permanent ponding water resistance, extreme durability, and superior capabilities of sealing and protection.
  • ENERGY STAR certified and CRRC (Cool Roof Rating Council) rated

How much area does a bucket cover

It should be applied in one coat smoothly and evenly over the entire roof surface, including parapet walls at a minimum 1.5 gallons per 100 square feet.

Can I apply this onto plywood and will it be a long lasting roofing material?

Answers

Yes you can, its better to roll material down first , but you can apply it right onto the plywood but you will need at least 2 coats, you will need to reapply like in a year just to touch up some spots where the plywood has contracted.

Your only real choice is silicone sealant in "caulking gun" format--not sure if Henry's makes one, but you can buy it from roofing companies. You could call Home Depot and ask about this: 884 Tropi-Cool 100% Silicone Roof Sealant. Good luck!

I think you will find that GACO will cost too much to cover a standard house roof. But go calculate it. What good does a 50 year warranty do? In 20 years do you think the company will still be in business? And if the company has dissolved, how will you collect? In 1961 I bought a Picket Slide Rule with a lifetime warranty. Do you think I could collect on it now? My father bought a life time membership with the European Health Spa. Where are they now?

How long can a bucket sit. I got it a couple of month ago and i cant find some to coat my roof? So its just sitting in my basement.

Follow up...I bought building for a song...shes a beauty...roof is actually modified bitium roll over an earlier BUR roof. Pretty decent surface in my opinion...main concern is water or moisture that might be trapped under it when I go to put on coating. Have some large uncovered areas to patch then plan to put this on before april-as local code changes then and permit will be then required. If I get say a week straight of sunny rain free days should that be enough dry out time for roof? Anyway feel free to throw any more tips at me...also seems like price went way up? Had it in my head I needed about $3500 worth of product but now seems more like $6000 +

Can this be applied to a flat roof with rolled asphalt?

Yes. That is what I did on a 44' X 62' roof after washing it with a power washer.

Easy application, like painting with Elmer's white glue. Rain safe as advertised, I had hit and miss showers on one of the days I was applying the product, and it stayed put after only 15 minutes to dry. Very impressed with the product so far.

The product has a shelf life of 2 years. On the cans I bought there's a small sticker with two sets of numbers. The top number is the manufacture date code and is 8 digits in length. I had to call Henry's to decrypt to code, which is proprietary, to figure out when it was manufactured. 800-486-1278 (8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST, Mon.-Fri.)

I initially applied this to my 0.5/12 pitch flat roof two summers ago. Did all the prep work and some of the roof looked a little thin in coverage. Contacted Henry and was told to add more to cover the thin areas I went ahead and did cleaning and blowing dry the roof and recoated the roof, All looked great until this year, Now there are tears and bubbles showing up after a year cycle. There's even more bubbles than from spring, many more. Fairly disappointed now. This is mainly where I get the ponding water issue, the areas where the water doesn't really pond are fine.

After 6 months of debating and studying roofing systems, I broke down and applied Henrys to my EPDM roof. Weather, sunny and 90 degrees. I followed all instructions to the T. I removed all of the previous installs of decor. I used a pressure washer, then dawn soap and hand scrubbed. I used the sealant on the front and rear caps and around every vent and antenna. I then hand painted all the edges and end caps with Henrys. I then used a roller on entire roof open areas. I let it sit overnight. When I woke up, the dew was beaded up and it was waterproof. I allowed the dew to dry and wiped down with a rag and soap and allowed the water to dry. I then went around edges with brush for my 2nd coat. It rolled on very smooth. My tips, buy 2 brushes and 2 rollers if you're doing multiple coats. They cant be salvaged. Wear sunglasses. Its bright. Wear knee pads. Trust me. I learned this the hard way. I removed my ACs and solar while installing but left everything else. Roof looks awesome. Only cons I can see its having to carry a gallon of sealant instead of eternabond tape.

After re-sealing a top porch using aluminum coating and seeing poor results, I decided to use the best coating I could find. It’s only been a few weeks, but I can confidently say that it was well worth the price. The surface is so much thicker and smoother than aluminum; it’s like walking on a pool liner. I washed the surface and used TropicCool caulk to fill cracks. I started with a brush, but the product was way too thick to spread; switching to a nap roller worked perfectly. The surface remains cool even in full August sun, as opposed to the lava-like aluminum. Leftover rain droplets feel like ice-water! Time will tell if this product seals well, but just looking at the seams and edges, you can clearly see how well-coated they are. Overall, this product is 3x more expensive than aluminum coating, but 10x better.

This product accomplished what I attended it for. The only issue I had was shelf life stamp. I couldn’t find it anywhere on the 5 gallon bucket I purchased. The manufacturer says that from the time it is made, it only last 24 months.

I purchased this product to seal the area where 3-tab shingles overlap the modified bitumen flat roof — an area of troublesome leaks with all the heavy rain lately — and to add a layer of protection against ponding water on the flat roof. As expected, the product is very thick, so it's a little tricky to load a 3/4" nap roller working out of a paint tray. It took repeated passes to get a uniform coat in both areas. But it dried quickly as promoted. I decided to spend a little more because I have seen attempts to seal roofs using Elastomeric-based paint products, that just didn't work reliably. Those products are just too thin to seal the gaps. I believe Henry Tropi-Cool will prove its value over time. It shouldn't take long to find out. It's pouring again as I write this!
