Will it sew on single layer non slip rug backing?
Helen, The Janome MOD-8933D Serger is capable of handling a variety of fabrics and applications for home use. Ultimately the thickness of the fabric and number of layers will determine if this machine will successfully serge it. We always recommend test stitching on sample fabric before working on your project so that you can adjust the stitch quality accordingly. The lay in tension dials on this model allow for easy stitch tension changes plus stitch length adjustment dial in addition to the adjustable foot pressure knob will help you dial in the specific settings needed to successfully serge any project.
Please explain lay in threading?
Phyllie, that is a great question regarding serger threading, there are 2 main types. Lay in or dial. Lay-in threading is much like that of a sewing machine, you simply lay the thread into the tension discs on a predetermined thread path to properly thread the machine. With a dial threading serger, it requires you to wrap or wind the threads around each dial. While both will produce excellent serged seams and wonderful results, some people prefer lay-in over the dial style. Can you do embroidery on baseball caps with this machine as well as T-shirts?
The Janome MOD-8933D is a Serger. While it is more than capable of serging the raw edges of the fabric on T-shirts, and baseball cap material, it is, however, unable to perform any embroidery functions. For more information on this model please visit the Janome website.
Does this machine really work on jersey fabrics T-shirt, knits, stretch etc.?

The Mod-8933D serger has the capability of serging on all types of fabrics. It is especially useful for serging knit fabrics, such as Jersey and T-shirt. The Differential Feed system allows the sewest to adjust the amount of fabric being fed through the feed dogs, preventing fabric from stretch or gathering. With 3-thread or 4-thread capabilities, this serger will give excellent results when serging on knits.

Is this serger easy to thread
Hi Wee, All sergers have a learning curve when it comes to threading, but this one has lay-in threading, so it is considered easier to thread than the dial threading type.
