crack after 3 years
I bought this tub in 2018 and it just cracked at the bottom back edge. I really liked the tub and the bathroom remodel was done around the dimensions of the tub. I'm worried about having to pay another $750 (to ensure the new tub fits into the space) to just have it crack in 3 years. This is a total bummer.

Cracked and leaked after a few years light use
We bought this tub in late 2015, installed it a few months later and didn't start using it regularly until 2018 (it went into a house we were renovating). When it was installed I actually highlighted the important parts of the instruction manual and went over them with the contractor, knowing that proper installation was critical. Despite this it always creaked like crazy whenever we used it. A few days ago while the tub was in use water started dripping out of the ceiling below. A horizontal crack had opened in the shallow end, but we didn't notice it at the time so the plumber did an expensive, unnecessary repair to fix what he thought was the source of the leak (the drain shoe). Next night my wife took a bath and water came pouring out of the ceiling underneath. Now we have a huge hole in our kitchen ceiling and a tub we can't use (the only one in this house, btw). Not to mention the $2,000+ it will cost to rip out the faulty tub, buy and install a new one, fix the tile and repair/repaint the ceiling below!

Major crack after only 3 years
Very, very disappointed in this bathtub. I loved everything about it for three years and then out of no where, a massive crack appeared at the bottom. It's absolutely ridiculous to have to replace a bathtub after three years. Nevermind the expense. Reading about it now, this seems to be a known issue for many people. I can't believe it's still being sold.

Hi Kat7, this is Sarah with Kohler Co. I'm sorry to hear your Archer bath has cracked on the bottom after three years of use. This is very unusual and nothing you should expect to occur when choosing a Kohler bath. A crack in an acrylic product could be caused by impact (something striking the bath), during or after installation. It could also be a result of improper installation. We'd like to connect with you to learn how we can help. Please email our team at KohlerCustServ@kohler.com. Thank you. -Sarah S. KOHLER Customer Service

The difference is the 32 inc. one increse one Inc. each side at 5 inches before the edge. After this, decided to exchange it for the 30 inches version. It looks pretty and elegant in my bathroom!!

We had one of these put in our master bath. I picked it based on the dimensions and the fact it was a Kohler so I was expecting a quality tub. Of course out of the box it looks great. Once installed and we go to use it we found there was a low spot on the back edge. Water builds up there and sits against the wall. It also squeaks like crazy.

Tub cracked after 2 years. It started with a small crack and it has now expanded to about 8 inches. (see image). I called Kohler and they refused to fix it as warranty is only for a year. They blamed it on the contractor who installed it, even though the contractor followed all instructions in Kohler booklet. How can a tub crack in 2 years ?.. my old one lasted 12 years and still did not have any cracks.

A very nice soaking tub this is. Comfortable, long enough for me to sit and stretch out my legs (5'6"height), back support is great, deep enough to feel "bathed", easy to get out of it. My daughter is going to put the same tub in her new bathroom.

The tub has been in my guest bath for two weeks now. I've used it daily as my master bathroom is currently being remodeled. It is a very sharp looking tub with it's clean rectangular lines. The contractors commented on the high quality. It is setting in a bed of mortar and there are no creaks. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Beautiful Soaking Tub...perfect in every way. If you’re into bubble baths like me, this is the tub for you...The lumbar support is great and allows you to recline comfortably. The bottom of the tub has molded textured bumps, but for additional safety I further enhance the grip and use a clear bath mat. One of the coolest features is a toe-tap floor drain. Love it, very easy to use and so convenient. Very sophisticated and elegant! This was professionally installed and contractor had no problems with it.

I purchased this tub and had it installed two years ago as part of a guest bathroom remodel in my condo. I was attracted to its modern styling and size, as well as tub's light weight. However, after just two years of very occasional use (about 20 total uses, as it was in a guest bathroom), the tub developed a large 4" crack near the drain area (see picture) and is unusable. The tub only comes with a one-year warranty. When I called Kohler to explain that this was basically a new tub that was only used a handful of times, the Kohler rep (as well as the rep's supervisor) said too bad, it's out of warranty, that the only thing they would do is refer be to an authorized Kohler repairman to make repairs at my expense. However, the Kohler repairman they referred me to said that Archer tubs are non-repairable, because this model lacks a fiberglass backing. I investigated purchasing an inlay to epoxy to the bottom of the tub, however because the crack is near the drain area where the tub starts to curve up, that is not an option either. My only option is to buy a new tub and pay thousands of dollars to someone to rip out the old tub, install a new tub, patch the wall and floor tiles, etc. Do not purchase this tub! It is cheaply made, and Kohler will not stand behind it.

Boston, my name is Sarah with Kohler Co. I'm sorry to hear your Archer bath developed a crack around the drain after 2 years of use. A crack in this location (seen within a few years after installation) is likely caused by over tightening of the drain. I'm sorry the Kohler repairman was unable to repair this. We would like to discuss this with you further to be sure we are exhausting all possible options for repair. Please email us at KohlerCustServ@kohler.com. Sincerely, Sarah B. KOHLER Customer Service

The bath looks good and is deep enough to soak well. I would not buy another acrylic bath tub, it simply feels flimsy in comparison to a cast iron tub. For the price I thought it would be a stronger product.

                          Beautiful Tub, Buy it!
What an amazing improvement to my bathroom. I updated a 1970's bathtub, so this is deeper and well built. It adds value to my bathroom and home, the kids love taking baths in it. Easy to clean. It's about double the cost of a standard bathtub but it's worth it. I can't really comment on ease of installation as I had my remodeling guys install it.

                            Love this Tub!
We just remodeled two bathrooms in our home and put an Archer 60" x 30" right hand drain soaking tub with Apron in our main floor, small and narrow bathroom. There is info on this site that says this doesn't exist but we have one installed at this very moment so ask around for this if it's what you need. We replaced an old, shallow cast iron tub (that had to be sledge hammered to pieces to be removed) and we are so happy with this choice (it took MONTHS to make our tub decisions!). I finally can take a bath and have water cover my torso while reclining! Our Archer apron has a more recessed look (see photos) vs. the raised detailing of this model so I'm guessing we have an older model (we purchased summer 2015)? But the classic, clean look is a great fit for our home and a good match for the simple Kohler cast iron Bellwether 66" tub we put in our larger 2nd bathroom. There are no arm rests in this model which is a plus given the narrow size. You do need a special overflow part given the cool horizontal design (which also allows a deeper fill) so make sure you order that part as well, for installation! Great tub and so glad we found this model!

                              Love the tub
We love this tub ... it is a heavier construction than many other flimsy tubs. It is higher than most, so you can take a nice bath with deep water. It looks sharp! We have had a problem after installation (the contractor followed Kohler's installation instructions) ... the floor of the tub squeaks when we move in the tub while taking a shower. He has tried to reinforce it, without a change in the squeak. We are waiting for a response from Kohler (we wrote a letter).

Nice looking, solid, extra deep tub.
We ordered this tub partly because it went well with the Craftsman/Mission style of our older (1918) house. We had it installed by a contractor for our bathroom remodel. He wanted to just use the adhesive installation process, but I insisted that he also place the tub on a mortar bed. I'm glad that I did. The tub sits nice and solid, does not flex at all in use that I can detect. (other reviews I had read complained about it flexing. -- Mortar bed cures that!.) The stepped style of the inside of the tub makes it look narrower than most, but we have found it to be plenty wide enough for our needs (but we shower, rather than soak most of the time). The specifications for this tub say that it is acrylic. When it arrived, I looked underneath, and it looked like fiberglass. Closer examination revealed that it is actually acrylic -- about 3/16" thick, backed by fiberglass reinforcement. So the fiberglass is what you see on the underside but acrylic is the user surface that you deal with. We do like this tub. The only drawback is that it is a little difficult for my very short wife to step into because it is a little taller than the average bathtub. We put grab handles at both ends of the tub to aid getting in and out.

                                Great soaking tub
Archer tub fits in well in master bath remodel. Tub is fairly deep and not overly wide so utilizes less water and overflow is situated high in the tub and is attractive. Old tub was six foot and massive Jacuzzi tub. New one allowed for install of small shelf on side and rear of tub. Overall pleased with choice/value of this Kohler product.

                                  Great tub
I am 5'10" and wanted to take good baths. Looked for a deep soaking tub to try to achieve this in a condo space. It is much better than my previous tub squatty little tub. No idea if it was easy to install or not because my contractor did it. The drain so far is holding up. Someone complained about the arm rests - they really aren't meant to be a full arm rest, but it is a spot to rest your elbows. I didn't find any discomfort with the arm rests. The water still doesn't fully cover me, but with a 5' space, you get what you get and the deep soak drain is fabulous. It is still a standard height so you don't have to swing your legs way up and over if you are short. Overall, great tub -wish it was a bit taller to allow for a deeper soak, but in this price range, it is great. It looks very pretty installed as well. The overflow drain is a smidge loud, but nothing too crazy - If it bothers you just tap your foot on the bottom drain to let out enough water that it doesn't flow through the overflow drain anymore. Easy.

                                    Beautiful Tub
This tub is awesome!! I replaced an old single unit shower and wall combo installed back in 1985 - this is a standard tub, but my unit was just an inch or so smaller, so the contractor had to do a little extra work to make sure the tub would fit in. But it look beautiful! I would highly recommend to anyone looking to update a bath tub.

                                    Excellent tub!
I have installed three of these for renovation clients. They are very happy with them. The slotted overflow plus the 20" height of this tub makes for a really deep water depth, unlike standard tubs. I highly recommend this product.

                                    Beautiful Tub
Truly a beautiful tub, and very easy to clean. Just be sure to use a gentle cleaner like Clorox Greenworks. One thing to note is that during the renovation we scuffed the tub with a step ladder, and I followed Kohler's recommendation of using a white car polish compound to buff the scratch with a cloth, and it made it as good as new! I am 185lbs 5'11, and this tub is HUGELY spacious. I can sit down in it and although my knees are up, they are just about completely submerged by the tub. Really really happy with it!
