Questions & Answers

Can you give me recommendations on how to install this parallel to an existing hardwood floor?
ByAug 7, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The best way to install parallel floors is to place a transition between the two floors. In many cases a t-mold will be your best option, but if the floors are different thicknesses you may want to use a hard surface reducer. You can talk to our technical services department at 877-630-1800 if you want to discuss your options.

Does this have a plywood or MDF core?
    ByJun 24, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

This floor is a hybrid engineered wood floor with a stone polymer composite (SPC) core with a real wood veneer. SPC is a common core for vinyl products, so Carlsbad Maple marries the durability of a vinyl construction with the aesthetic and texture of a hardwood floor.

I have a customer who wants to install this product in a high rise with concrete subfloor and her building requires a certain IIC rating. Is there a downloadable TDS available to submit to her building management for approval?

Is there a way to recycle pieces that are cut and/or broken? I had to replace several pieces of flooring that got damaged and would prefer to recycle the used flooring if possible.

How many square feet can be installed between transitions? I have a 2400 sq foot home and want to use a few transitions as possible.
                ByDec 22, 2024
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. The maximum continuous installation without transition molding is 65 lineal feet. The limit can be extended to 85 lineal feet providing the expansion gap around the perimeter and other vertical obstructions is increased to 1/2 in. wide. Transitions are required at doorways or passageways 5ft. wide or less

                  Worst product I’ve ever purchased
This is probably the worst product I’ve ever purchased. Even with proper installation there are gaps, boards pop up with temperature change. Had it for 4 years and it gets worse every winter. Absolute nightmare. Scared off from the entire brand of lifeproof. I can’t wait to rip this is up and burn it

                    Fine not Good
I’ve had this flooring installed for about a year now, and overall, it’s a mixed experience — there are several standout positives, but also some frustrations worth mentioning. Pros The panels look very attractive and natural. The wood veneer design eliminates the worry of repeating patterns showing up side-by-side. The floor is impressively quiet, even after a full year of daily use — I haven’t found a single spot that squeaks or crinkles when walked on. The panels cut smoothly, and the surface itself feels sturdy and durable. Cleaning is effortless — dirt and spills wipe off easily, keeping the floor looking fresh with minimal effort. Cons The veneer edges are quite brittle compared to the top surface. Several chipped off shortly after installation, which was disappointing for something marketed as “Lifeproof.” The flooring expands and contracts more than expected — spans longer than about 30 feet can lead to visible plank separation, even when installed with proper expansion gaps. The core material feels somewhat fragile; it’s a plastic-clay composite that doesn’t handle repeated assembly/disassembly well. After a few take-aparts, edges begin to fail. Color and finish options seem limited for the Oconee Oak stain, making repairs or expansions frustrating. Despite the brand name, “Lifeproof” shouldn’t be mistaken as a sign of warranty coverage, high durability, or satisfaction guarantee — it’s more of a marketing term than a promise. Overall Impression A visually beautiful floor that’s quiet and easy to maintain, but better suited for smaller spaces or lighter use. Installation must be handled carefully, and long-term durability may not live up to the brand’s name.

The floor looks absolutely beautiful, but I will say delivery kept changing so I couldn’t figure out when they were gonna come. Then they finally did away after the time that they were supposed to come and the floor when you cut it makes the biggest mess. All in all it’s a nice product, but Home Depot you have some work.

                      Peeling top
I’ve had this installed in my bathroom for just under 2yrs and the top layer is peeling off all around the bathtub. It definitely is not water proof.

                        Love this flooring
There is a learning curve with the installation but once you understand hoe it likes to go together it works great. I installed it in my basement which was not as flat as it needed so I found myself using self leveler in some spots. Once the floor was flat it went together nicely (like I said above, once you understand how it goes together it works well.) I thought it was boxed well with plastic corner protectors and wrapped in plastic. Once it is installed the color is just amazing. Love it!

                          Very disappointed
Floor planks looked great at first. Scratches very easy. Installation is horrible. I say “is” because I am currently reinstalling. Locking mechanisms broke and detached over the last year spreading the planks. I have installed at least 10 floating floors over the past few years and the .99 per sqft floors were easier and stayed in place longer. I am halfway through the room again and am noticing the wood in the seams. I am positive these will not last but I already spent $1300

                            Pieces lifting up
We had this flooring installed in March 2023. Within 3 months the pieces were separating at the seams. I called the installer and he came and said the flooring was defective. He then told me that he had reached out to the manufacturer while he was installing the flooring with his concerns and the installer said that he was installing it correctly. I have recently reached out to HD and they sent out an inspector to view the defective flooring and an awaiting their decision.

                              DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!
I purchased the Carlsbad Maple 0.28 in. T x 6.5 in. W Waterproof Engineered Hardwood Flooring (21.8 sq. ft./case) by Lifeproof at the Home depot and had it installed last year (around March of 2023). It's been installed throughout my 3 bedroom home and in our Ohana. I was told this is the best wood flooring product for the humid Hawaii climate and that it has a lifetime guarantee (by the way, we also have AC in our home so humidity is less than more other homes on island). It initially looked beautiful when it was installed. Within 6 months of installation, a few boards started to buckle and fail, and this has progressed in multiple places throughout my home and in the Ohana. In our kitchen it is so bad that it's a safety hazard and we've almost tripped several times on the edge of the board. This product is clearly defective since random boards have this issue in different spots and I have gotten no help from the manufacturer who is refusing to take responsibility. I see now on the home depot website that many people have a similar experience but these reviews were not there when I purchased this flooring. I feel duped and am now stuck with the costly prospect of replacing my flooring again. To be clear, the home depot was not at fault and did deliver on time and attempt to help me rectify the situation but the manufacturer refuses to admit the product is faulty. The even sent out an adjustor who pointed out other boards that I hadn't seen and to our face said that it's clearly the product that's at fault, but then the manufacturer still refused to take responsibility and claims it is an installation issue. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT!!
