Caseta Smart Switch Starter Kit with Smart Bridge, White

I've been working with home automation products for several years. Nearly all of the original switches that I used (Z-Wave, by Linear) have failed. I started using this Lutron Caseta for on/off switching and the similar dimmer design for the rest of my switches. It's been a couple of years now and every Caseta switch or dimmer that I have installed is still working perfectly. The remotes are easy to pair with or without a hub. It makes two, three, or x-way switching simple. The remotes can be flush mounted in a wall-mount kit or installed in a normal switch box. I'm sure that the batteries for the remotes will eventually need replacement but I haven't had to deal with that issue as yet. I'm using the Lutron hub with my switches, dimmers, and remotes. I've also paired the Lutron hub with a SmartThings hub so that I can set up routines to turn off lights after a certain period of time or turn on based on separate motion or luminance detectors connected to the SmartThings hub. The entire system is integrated with the Amazon echo (alexa). Integration is seamless and without issues. I used this particular Lutron Caseta non-dimmer wireless switch for a bank of fluorescence lights in my work area. The on/off switch does require a neutral wire. The great thing about the Caseta dimmer switches is that they do not require a neutral wire, making installation possible on old-work where no neutral wire is present in the switch box. The dimmers also allow cleaner wiring in a multi-gang switch box. They are low profile, extending about 1" from the front mounting. Switches and dimmers are pre-wired with approximately 5" leads. Dimmer leads are tinned, switch leads are not. I strongly recommend this product. It is expensive but worth it.

I've used the Lutron Caseta line for four years or so and find them exceptionally dependable. There are cheaper alternatives flooding the market, but experience has bound me to Lutron. The Caseta's excellent integration with HomeKit is appealing to Apple-centric users like me, and with this particular device I have extended my system to control a second area of back yard lighting.

I really like this product and decided to purchase one for each room in my house. If you have the Wink 2 hub it is not necessary to purchase the caseta smart bridge. These switches are also compatible with Alexa. The switch cover is sold separately.

Easy installation and works great. I have a full house of Lutron Caseta, over 20 on/off and dimmer switches. They work great at the switch, remote (with the hub), and via scheduling.

We love the Caseta Wireless System. This is very easy to install, operate and program. The smart switch took less than 10 minutes to install. Follow the instructions, which show pictures and step by step written directions. The programming is just as simple, follow the instructions and then use the Lutron App on your phone or tablet to get it set up and ready for programming. The Lutron App makes it simple to program scenes, on/off times and even control it from your phone or a wireless remote (not included). The installed look is very clean and modern looking, blending in with any existing adjacent wall switches. We are upgrading each of our switches in our new home. This makes life so much easier.

The Caseta wireless smart lighting switch for all bulb types and fans is a must have for anyone looking to build a smart home. The included installation manual is very clear and easy to understand and follow. It took me less than 30 minutes to complete installing this device. Safety is paramount when dealing with electrical device. It would be better to get a professional if not comfortable with dealing with electrical wires. I was able to connect the wires and turned back the circuit breaker.The light came on and I was able to add the device to my Samsung smart things account for home automation. Happy with this device and highly recommend it.

Limited 3-way capabilities. I love Lutron switches, we currently have two of the Maestro dimmers (non-smart) installed in our home. They have a very clean, sleek, stylish look that can’t be beat. And there functionality far exceeds everybody else in my opinion. I’ve been looking to start converting our home to a smart home for some time now and would like to do it using the Lurton switches. I got this switch to start experimenting with that process. The switch, itself, has the same look and feel you’d come to expect from a Lutron switch and this particular switch states that it can be installed as a single switch or in a 3-way setup. The switch only came with instructions for single pole installation so you have to go online to get the 3-way instructions which is a bit of a hassle. The link they provide you with is a PDF of how to install all the Caseta switches in 3-way configuration so you’ll have to scroll through to find your particular situation. I wanted to install in it in a 3-way location with one of my existing Maestro dimmers so I could use the smart switch to turn the light on and off with the smart capabilities and use the Maestro to dim manually as needed. After reviewing the instructions I learned that the 3-way capabilities are limited for these and all Caseta switches. The only way Caseta switches can be installed in a 3-way configuration is with a standard mechanical toggle switch or with a Pico remote. This is my biggest complaint and the one thing keeping me from jumping into the Caseta smart switches. If I were to replace the switches throughout my house I would like to replace them all so there is a consistent look and feel everywhere. But I don’t want to replace a powered switch with a battery powered remote. I do see the benefit of the remote in situations where you would like a 3-way switch but don’t have an existing one. But, it baffles me that I can install a switch that will allow me to operate it form across the world or even with my voice but we can’t wire two of them together in a 3-way configuration. That aside, I installed the switch in a single pole location after failed attempts to get it to work with the dimmer. The switch functions well and is very responsive and looks good. In order for it to function as a smart switch you need to purchase the Caseta bridge (sold separately) and set it up in a smart “ecosystem” of your choice (Apple, Amazon, etc.). I haven’t used this function yet for the reasons and will probably hold off on doing so until they can be installed together in 3-way setups. I did take another look at the package and it does say it works with existing 3-way switch or a pick remote but doesn’t expressly say that it won’t work with other Lutron switches. The only reason I wouldn’t recommend this product is if your looking to use it in a 3-way configuration like I was. If you want it for it’s smart capabilities and installing in a single pole location go for it.

I have caseta by Lutron installed all over my house. These smart switches and great. I like them for a few key reasons. First they respond very fast. They link easily to your app and base system. They don't need internet access to work fully; they still function if the internet goes offline, but not all the functionality may be present. That said, if you set them up to do a 'timer' functionality like turn on or off at certain times, this still works with the internet offline. Biggest downside in my mind is the cost. I have slowly updated my house with these because each one is much much more expensive than a standard light switch. I'm using this one in my main hallway upstairs. As a hallway its a 3-way installation which is slightly more difficult. You actually have to change the wiring on both switches and use a jumper cable on one end. Additionally I added a Caseta pico switch for a location I always wish had a switch. Pico switches are great because they require no wiring, just application programming. Great system, easy to install. Just wish the 3-way install instructions were included in the box and not via online pdf. Note: for bedroom applications there is a small green LED on the switch. It is brightest when the light is off and dims when the light is turned on. This may annoy folks who like a perfectly dark room.

Remember, this is a switch providing no dimming so evaluate your application. I am using it for porch lights, which I would never consider putting on a dimmer. The instructions are very clear for single pole applications. Just remember to check to see which black wire is the line (hot) and which is the load (lights or fan). In multi-gang boxes and even a single gang box, the wiring must be carefully folded back into the box since space is going to be at a premium. This device takes up about double the space of a standard toggle switch and maybe a bit more. Be sure to follow the instructions for removing side tabs in multi-gang application and note that once you do that then the wattage rating is reduced (de-rated). Aside from the extra effort to neatly fold wires into the box the installation is pretty easy. I did have a glitch connecting to my Wink Hub 2, which provides automatic scheduled lighting from dusk to midnight right now. It is a software glitch from Wink and NOT a Caseta issue. It should work just fine with the Lutron Bridge and the switch does connect to Wink but you don't get the proper response during the setup. Look for the paired device in your Wink device list and you should see it their after the first attempt if the hub is in range. FYI, I have an Android phone and this might not be an issue with the iPhone software. The final installation looks nice and works well just like all the other Lutron devices I have installed including a number of "CL" dimmers for LED bulbs and motion sensor switches.
