Questions & Answers

will this work with classic rib metal roofing?

Asked by: JLC
Yes if the roof is not installed but it requires precise cuts, and overlapping of two sheets and it will never seal on the downhill side due to the ribs. It's a pain, trust me. I have ribbed metal (3 foot wide ribbed) on my house, my workshop and 1200 sf barn. You need a product like this for your vent flashing: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-Master-Flash-0-25-in-2-in-Roof-Flashing-14050/204716001 Make sure you get one for your size vent pipe, and use proper roof caulking and the proper number of metal roofing screws. I also use a similar high temperature flashing for my 8" diameter wood stove pipes and it's the only way to go.

I also like to know the installation of this flashing? Do we need to use roof cement to glue it to the shingles or just slide under shingles? If we do not nail or glue it down, will it stay put even when there is wind? Thanks.
Asked by: HelenSTL
There are plenty of good videos on line that can show you exactly how to install this on a new or existing shingle roof. Watch a few of those and you'll have all the answers and confidence to do it yourself. (It's NOT the right product though for a ribbed metal roof.) It's really not that difficult but it's critical to know HOW to do it to prevent leaks.

How to install

How is this installed? Is there a link to a how to video or a step by step installation pdf? Its says no calk is that correct? where it it permissible to nail?
Asked by: Turboramjet
You will nail with galvanized nails in the areas that will rest underneath the shingles. You don't want to nail on the bottom portion of the Flashing that will be exposed once installed - the down slope portion. You also don't want to use any petroleum products in contact with our Flashings.

The description is wrong, it says it will fit from 1 inch to 3 inch pipes. I needed it to fit a 1 inch PVC conduit. When it arrived the label on the product clearly states it fits 1.5 inch to 3 inch pipes.

So far so good for this plastic base flashing. It slid over a cast iron 3 inch vent stack easily. Even though the stack was older the flexible rubber opening wrapped around the pipe tightly. I went the extra mile and added a bead of caulk on the pipe before sliding the flashing over it to provide an even tighter seal. The 11x15 base is ample for the shingles to cover

Real tight fit, don't know how anything could leak through that fit. Very flexible and of strong construction. Now it will have to endure the test of time. It has only been installed for about 3 weeks and so far so good. I will definitely go and purchase three more of these as I have 3 more vent pipes yet to be installed. Couldn't give it five stars until it has been on for a few years.

I cut it for the 2 inch pipe and slid it onto the pipe and repaired the shingles around the flashing and it works great. I would recommend you be careful on cutting to the correct size and make sure the cut is clean not ragged. This is an easy install on any vent pipe and I recommend this product.

Venting PVC for bathrooms is not sexy but it's necessary and of course it's also critical that the seal around the vent pipe NOT leak; ever. The flexibility of this flashing base makes it perfect for just about any pitch. It's very tough material and there's no worries about tearing, etc during installation, or break down after a few years of hot sun.

The Oatey 1.5 inch to 3 inch thermoplastic roof flashing measures 11 inches by 15 inches. All-Flash fits any roof angle from 0 degrees to 45 degrees. When used on 1.5 inch to 2 inch pipe no cutting is needed. If you are using this flashing on 3 inch pipe you will need to remove the inner ring. The instruction are easy to follow and are printed on the flashing.

I just sold my house and one the things the buyers wanted was for me to fix the two vent boots on my roof. I got this, watched a video on the internet and installed them myself. They are a good size and fit right over the vent pipe perfectly with a good seal. no fuss, no mess. The hardest part for me was getting off the roof onto the ladder without falling!
