Thermafiber Fire and Sound Guard mineral wool insulation is designed to provide exceptional acoustic control and fire protection in interior walls as well as floor and ceilings in residential and light commercial construction. I would use if you already have and cannot exchange for ROCKWOOLR-30 Comfortbatt 7-1/4 in. x 15 in. x 47 in. Fire Resistant Stone Wool Insulation Batt (29.9 sqft) or a similar that fits your studs size best. The tyvac and siding do not have to wait on the insulation, unless Code requires it.
Do I need a vapor barrier on my walls? I am redoing a small bathroom, one wall sets on the south side, I live in Houston TX
I would not unless it’s the Shower/Tub area or if it’s an older home that does not have it on the exterior wall under the outside sheeting material.

hello pheasant, the Thermafiber Fire and Sound Guard is an acoustical insulation for use on interior walls and is not tested for R-value. Thermafiber does not manufacture a an R-38 batt product, but a R-38 can be achieved by layer R-15 and R23 of the UltraBatt. This product does not come in different R values, but from the manufacturer’s website to get to an R value of 30 the insulation would need to be 7 inches thick.

The fire and sound is used for interior walls. It’s not listed as a thermal insulation for exterior walls. As such while it is mineral wool (~R-5/inch) it’s likely that your building inspection would not pass your inspection due to no R-value being stamped on it.

There is no test method for pests, rodents or animals. If you have a problem or are concerned about pests, rodents or animals it is best to protect the insulation from access for such unwanted visitors.
