Hello, Can the cables be extended ? What is the max they can be ? Do you sell them or a 3rd party vendor ? Thank you
Asked by: Kevin
Coax cable runs for CCTV can be as long as 750' according to the research I've done. I've seen statements that say a practical maximum would be closer to 600' or 650', but the 750' is apparently the industries' cable specification. Q-See and other makers sell cable runs as long as 200' (as does Home Depot) in the "siamese" configuration, which means there's both video (coax) and a power cable together. It is important to be aware that voltage line drop on longer runs (over 200') may require a means to boost the voltage to the camera, either by using a higher voltage from the DVR end, or tapping a powersource closer to the camera's location. So, theoretically, you can link several long cables runs together to make your application work (ie, link a 100' and a 150' together to get 250') and still be within a practical limit.

What is the maximum distance between the DVR and the camera, if the included 100' Ethernet cables aren't long enough?
Asked by: Roobul
Cat5 or Cat6 cables can generally run 100m or 300' without any problem. That is the standard anyway. I've never had a problem reaching that distance.

Can you link two of these systems together?

I need more than 16 cameras to link together about 28 cameras. Can this system be linked together? Or is it limited that you'd have to install two separate systems?
Asked by: Lou
This model is actually a 32 channel DVR.

8-Channel 4MP 2TB HeritageHD DVR Surveillance System with 8 4MP Bullet Cameras is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 38.

It limits where you can install the DVR. Need 100 ft cables to reach cameras around house front sides and back. If it came with the 100 ft cables I would have given it an excellent rating.

I/We are very happy with this system and the way it works after only 1 1/2 months. It was easy to set up and to get the cameras to work online thru hones(with help from CS). The video from the cameras is very clear and crisp and the night vision works better then expected. We can see more then the 100ft it say they will work so we are happy with that. The daytime video is just as clear as being outside and looking thru your own eyes. The only thing I wish it had was a little more information on how to use the recording options. Overall we are very satisfied and wish we would have purchased 1 of these systems earlier.

I did some special networking things with it on our network to put it in its own VLAN and subnet and it played along nicely! I added a different model IP camera from Q-see and it worked great after contacting support. Support was excellent, knowledgeable and professional... the accent was not native english speaking, but easy enough to understand and the people on the other end were very helpful.

The NVR was easy to set up and get views, but the fine tuning takes a bit of experimenting. The camera adjustments and recording options aren't intuitive and the included instructions are very basic. I probably could have found detailed instructions on line but I chose to play with it and I have it mostly set up the way I want it. The night vision is pretty good. You get a good view for about 40 feet, which is really a limit of the camera capability. Even in daytime, you can't expect to see more than 50-60 feet with good clarity and to be able to identify someone. I can see the bottom of the driveway 150 feet away, and know when a car goes by, but I couldn't identify the model. The cable lengths are good, I haven't had a problem reaching the far corners of the house. Overall, I'm pleased.

Installation was a breeze, if you like spending a day crawling around an attic. After all the hardware was installed it took all of 5 minutes to get it online. Another 5 minutes to get 2 iPhones connected.

This kit brings everything you need to protect and have full view of the house at all times. Once you download the APP, you just open it, touch on the screen you want to check and you have a live view nearly instantly. The cameras provide a high definition, high quality picture and bring all the hardware needed to mount and install them. The setup of the device is also very easy, create an account and it is plug and play. 2 TB's provide a lot of hard drive space for recording which is a big plus considering that there are six cameras running at all times. On the negative side, everything is wired by LAN lines...the device goes to your router with an Ethernet cable and to the TV with an HDMI; all the cameras are wired with an Ethernet cable (included) to the system so the decision of where to place it is very important, it ends up being a big bundle of wires. Running the wires through the ceiling is also a bit tedious, but once finished and everything is running the system provides a great high quality picture at all times. If you are not comfortable going up in your ceiling, or running wires throughout the house you may want to consider having someone do the wiring for you. Overall a great product, great peace of mind when you are not home!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A professional system easily installed and used by regular homeowner When I picked up this surveillance system I wanted to like it and it just so happen that I absolutely love it. Q-see did a fantastic job with this system. A professional level surveillance system that can be installed and run by the regular homeowner. 2TB Full HD NVR with POE and of the cables need for install. No messing around trying to figure out which cables to purchase and how long each one needs to be. The setup also consists 8 cameras. Both camera types are rated IP66 so they can be used both indoors and outdoors, but I will get to that rating later CAMERAS: The cameras are 3 megapixels each with full high definition. I know with today's advances in technology that does not sound all that appealing, but for a surveillance system at this level its actually great. The video feed from the cameras is clear enough to distinguish and small details in appearance that would prove invaluable if you ever have a need to review the footage. All of the cameras have a viewing field of 65-70 degrees. Admittedly its not the widest field of view but it is more than usable field of view. There is a positive side to this. Though wider angle lenses capture more area in one frame, they also make everything appear to be further away and much smaller. Which makes distinguishing details harder. With surveillance cameras night vision is always a concern, because most of unwanted activities take place in the dark or at night. So good night vision is a big deal. These cameras actually have great night vision up to 100ft. Clear night vision with a minimal amount of glare. One of my favorite features of this system is that it is "Power over Ethernet (POE)". That means no more messing around with and running multiple cables for each camera. Each camera uses a single Cat5 Ethernet cable that both powers the camera and runs the the video signal. Which makes life a whole lot easier when it comes to installing this system as its a simple 1 cable from each camera straight to the box. Though this does mean that the NVR needs 2 power outlets in your home as it has a 12v input to power the box itself and a 48v input to power the POE connections. The cameras are built to last. Trust me on this one. That is obvious as soon as you hold one in your hand. The casing that houses the actual cameras was build very well. Giving each camera a high IP rating of 66. That means the cameras are completely sealed again dust and debris and they can handle strong powerful jets of water. Basically as long as these cameras are not being fully submerged in water. You are good to go. NVR: The NVR (Network Video Recorder). Basically the box that all the cameras plugs into that hooks up to your TV or monitors for viewing. The description of this system says that it is an 8 channel system, but that is only referring to the 8 cameras that come with the system. The box you receive has the ability to monitor 16 cameras at a time. There are 8 POP connections on the back of the box, plus you can monitor 8 more cameras over a network. The NVR internal fans are not the loudest Ive heard, but they are not quiet either. Thus I wouldn't recommend setting up the box in a commonly quiet room like the living room or a bedroom. By comparison the fans on my DVR cable box are louder. Also the status lights on the front of the NVR would not make for relaxing ambiance in a bedroom. The NVR comes installed with a 2TB seta hard drive. Combine that with the H.264 advanced compression and you get an impressive 44 days of 24 hours recording at 30 frames per second with the lowest quality 720 resolution. At the highest quality video recording you still get an impressive 12 days of 24 hour recording. You can also upgrade the hard drive to a maximum of 4TB to effectively double the time of recording. When you power the NVR on first the first time you will be prompted with a setup wizard, which is really easy do. The wizard assists in setting up a password and connecting to your home network/internet. Whether you choose to setup the system for only monitoring from a computer with in the network or monitoring from any computer. It is fairly fast and easy. Do not expect any awesome graphics or wallpapers on the viewing screen The monitor screen is far from revolutionary graphics and is not at all amazing to look at, but then again it does not need to be. The focus is on surveillance which it does very well. Its not for entertainment. The system has a very intuitive and user friendly home screen for monitoring and menu for setting up recording times, backup, monitoring, managing storage, motion detection, ect. You can also do all of this over your network as well. NOT SO GOOD: Though the NVR is a fairly nice recorder and does its job well. I do not like that it can only support up to 3 megapixel cameras. It just seems odd that they would only make this unit to support only up to 3 megapixel cameras as Q-see makes 4 megapixel cameras in the QT series lineup. So that means that you wont be upgrading the cameras to a higher megapixel with out upgrading to a different NVR as well. I must note that I do not really see a need for upgrading to higher megapixel cameras as the 3 megapixels are more that adequate. I also do not like that the NVR lacks a manual power switch on the unit. The lack of a power button has its practical reasons as most camera surveillance systems are run 24 hours a day 365 days a year and you wouldn't want someone accidentally hitting the power button causing you to have to reboot the entire system, but from a consumer standpoint with the system being used in a house and not a professional setting. It would be preferable to have a power switch for the system. As it stands you have to go into the menu to shut down the system and that doesn't power the system down. It just makes it safe for you to manually disconnect power to the system. The lack of a power button also means the as soon as you plug the NVR in. It turns on. This is by no means reason to pass this surveillance system up, but it would have been nice to have a manual switch to power down the system when need be. The mounting hardware that come with the cameras are just to small for most any application. The problem is easily remedied by taking a trip to your local home depot and pick up adequate screws and anchors. The mobile app is by far the hardest, most finicky thing to get setup, but the company was great in assisting me in getting it setup Conclusively I think its a great surveillance system with a great price. There are few things about that system that could be better like the mobile app, but nothing to be considered major. With anything you buy you have pros and cons and with this system the good far outweighs the bad in my opinion.
