Questions & Answers

Can the fan be operated without the thermostat?

I would like to wire the fan to a standard on/off switch and not have the thermostat control anything. Is that feasible? Thanks.

Is there any chance this fan to be modified into a Whole House Fan?

Asked by: Daghmor
Yes, I am doing exactly what you are asking. The statement by jet1 is not true. If you are handy and know where to go locally to get the parts: register (20x40x2), c-box (will need to be custom made by local sheet metal shop that does duct work, approx $40), insulated flex duct 14 or 16 in, damper (to seal off the vent), reducer to join everything together and the fan you will run about $500. If you were to buy any of the quietcool options you will spend well over a $1000 to get the same capacity as this. Look at a wifi switch like the WION where you can manage the unit remotely and setup a countdown or times to run. Enjoy

Professional 3013 CFM Power Gable Mount Attic Fan is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 104.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This fan delivers as promised, when coupled whith a different thermostat This fan moves a lot of air, and fast! So much that it makes a notable fluttering noise as air exits over the metal louvers of my standard size gable vent. Totally acceptable for the relief it provides. I just re-insulated the attic and installed this fan. On the first day of 95F degree weather, the temperature was kept to just 80Fdegrees inside. We don't have "Air Conditioning" so this is an enormous improvement. * NOTE : The thermostat included with this fan was useless and should be set aside. Buy one that is designed for attic fans. They have a comprehensive temperature range and are user friendly. Such thermostats are even available next to gable fans at, cough, cough, Lowes. Mine is set to turn on when the attic temperature reaches 100F degrees. I will set it to turn on at 105F degrees during the summer months. **Make sure you have plenty of soffit vents to provide air from outside to replenish the rapidly exhausted air otherwise all is for not.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed. My house is almost 33 years old so it needs all the help it could. Placed this fan in the attic at a gable end to replace a very old non working fan. Installing it was very easy due to prior setup existed. I should have listened to prior buyers and purchased a dedicated attic thermostat, although new the thermostat is not reading correctly when set at desired settings. I did contact the manufacturer and they have sent out a new thermostat. Home Depot also issued a 10% refund. I didn't want to do this install twice but it appears I will be doing so with regards to the thermostat. The fan is a very heavyweight well made red machine . It cycles on at approximately 110 degrees ( when set at 95 degrees) and runs for about 4 hours in Florida heat. The fan is not whisper quite but not much louder then my neighbors ac air exchange. I bought this fan due to the amount of air it pushes and the 15 year warranty. Buy it and buy a different thermostat, install and forget about it. Yes its a long review, no I don't mind helping the other guy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooler Home I purchased this fan due to the ratings. Ratings were MORE than right on. Although this fan has a rating of up to 4,000 sq ft home and I have approx. 2400 including space above the garage this fan is the one. It has been installed for only 4 days at this point. I can already see a dramatic change in the absence of excessive heat in attic. The home it self appears to be cooler and not as stuffy. we have had a very oppressive summer and like I said this fan has been doing the job. I just got a utility bill and I will come back next month and update rating. I am expecting a greatly reduced bill. As for quietness, I do not hear the fan in home. in garage you can hear a hum, on driveway just under the vent for fan you can hear it. Keep in mind that this is "turbo charged" fan and you will hear some blade noise hitting the air. I am sure that other "Quite Cool" fan models are just as efficient. If you have a smaller home, say 1200-1800 you could get by with a smaller unit. However, if you have 2000 plus don't be afraid of this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I ordered this fan to replace lower velocity gable fan I had in my garage that died. This fan is is significantly higher quality than the one is replaced but the higher air flow rate requires a higher noise level (no rattling or similar; just a higher level of noise associated with a slightly larger fan spinning at a much higher RPMs). I considered using a rheostat to reduce the fan RPM but this fan has a capacitor attached and such devises are not recommended to be uses with capacitor equipped motors. Accordingly, I just relocated the fan to the opposite end of my garage and am quite happy with its performance. It certainly moves a lot more air than my old fan and keeps the garage below much more comfortable in the NC summer heat. Be aware that I used the thermostat from my previous units as the provided thermostat does not support setting it high enough temperatures to keep it from running all summer in our NC heat.

It is a bit loud but it is only white noise and our building is open without a ceiling. (Sounds like rushing air, which it what it suppose to do.) I can't imagine the sound would be disturbing in an attic space. Has a nice long cord which made installation easy.

Running it at night when one is trying to sleep is not a good idea. When installing it, think about putting in a switch somewhere handy which will allow one to turn it off when desired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fan I was looking for a high quality gable fan for the hot Texas summers. The goal was to but up a higher quality fan with a reliable motor so I would not have to redo the project in a couple of years. I have a 3000 foot ranch so this fan makes a difference. I am still playing with additional input vent to try and get the proper airflow through the attic. I may add an additional fan in the coming month to add more airflow. If I do it will be another one of these units. They are a little more expensive but you can tell you get a superior product when you pull it out of the box. I am not a big fan of the attached thermostat. I wish they would lower price a little and not include this unit. I installed an electronic timer on my system to manage the time when it comes on and off.
