Q:Will this run a 7.5 ft Christmas tree with 400 pre-strung led lights? And if so, about how long on a 6 ah lithium battery?
by|Mar 28, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello, David - Thank you for your question. If the tree and lights do not pull more than 150 watts then, yes. You can determine approximate runtime using the following formula; Approximate Runtime = (Total Battery Watt Hours [Volts x Amp Hours] / Device Watts) * .85. I hope this helps! Additionally, if you need further support, then a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional is here for you, Monday - Friday from 9 am to 6 pm (EST) when you call or text us at 1.800.525.2579 or through email or live chat when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. Solar power is the best
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this to utilize with solar panel to Charge all my batteries. It works great so I bought 2. Can charge. 9 Amp in one day. I use Black Sock in temps under 30 and it works great keeping the battery warm.

Inverter might be OK, package is dangerous
First impression was it's bigger than earlier 150w inverter; second impression was Ryobi's designers might want to address the clamshell antitheft packaging. Extra careful with proper cutting tool (Wiss aviation metal snip) due to previous packaging punctures, it bit me anyway. We know packaging resistant to box cutters and pocket knives is needed, but this is a known problem and many aren't carrying tinsnips when they need the tool, especially those new to the line like clamp fan buyers.

              Nice upgrade from previous unit
This is a super handy little inverter. I have plenty of small items that I can power or charge off of this device. There are a couple of opportunities that Ryobi left on the table. The USB ports only provide power when the whole unit is energized. It would be really nice if there were separate power buttons for the DC power and AC power, that way you aren't wasting battery life running an inverter that isn't being used. The light is so so, they could have used that space and effort for the other power button. One interesting thing I noticed is that if you are charging a device off the USB C port, and then shut the power off of the device, the charger function will take over and pull power from the device you were charging right back into the One+ battery.

              Great portable power inverter
I have a couple of similar Ryobi inverters and they are just great to have. I keep a couple as we live in Florida and keep some just as a backup in case of a power outage from a storm. This one is even better as it also acts as a charger for a Ryobi battery, so it’s easy to keep it charged if you are on the go. It’s also great for travel and work as I keep one in my vehicle in case I need to charge my phone or iPad. Overall, it works great and I recommend this as a power backup to have around the house.

Great addition to use your battery and tool investment in New ways.
I love the Ryobi power inverter! This rocks. The ability to expand the uses for your battery investment is awesome. You can now use your tool batteries to recharge your phone, tablet or laptop, run a fan, inflate an air mattress with an electric air pump when out camping with one tool. You can also use this to recharge your tool batteries when you are in the car, boat or rv with a phone charger. I uses this to infatr a queen camping airmattress with a built in electric air pump that normally needs to plug into a wall, but now I can inflate that anywhere, charge my phone battery while camping. The airmattress filled quickly and I still had all 4 battery lights after inflating it with a 2 Ah battery. This will be very handy to take camping or just have the ability to recharge tool batteries while traveling and not having access to a wall outlet. You will love this and winder how you lived with out one.

              Lots of Features
This RYOBI inverter and charger set has lots of features. The first time that I tried it I needed a really bright light to finish a project after the sun had set. So, I plugged in my very bright 50watt AC powered LED floodlight into the inverter and it worked perfectly. I measured the voltage output with my power meter and the results were 120 volts AC with no load and 118 volts AC with a 100watt incandescent light bulb. I measured 60.12 Hertz output with this power meter. I looked at the AC waveform output of this inverter with an oscilloscope and noticed that the output was not sinusoidal, but rather the output voltage was stepped. Starting from zero the voltage stepped up, stepped to zero, stepped down, and then stepped back to zero. One of the best things about this inverter is that I can quickly get power to a project in the yard without having to run an extension cord.

There is Bad News and Good News for Ryobi Power inverters, RYi150C BAD & RYi150BG GOOD!
I recently obtained the combination Ryobi battery charger and power inverter (Model RYi150C) and was excited to use it to charge my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro in an area of our living room where there is not a handy plug for a USB Charger. I inserted a fully charged Ryobi 4Ah battery. While scanning the manual I noticed it said to push the large power switch on the top of the inverter for 3 seconds to turn on the power to the USB ports and the 110-volt outlet. After trying this several times, it was obvious that the switch was not going to stay on. The switch was bright green as long as I held the switch down, but it would go dark and stop powering the ports as soon as I let the switch go. For an experiment I got a rubber band and large nut from the garage and put rubber band around the inverter to push down on the nut on top of the switch. With constant pressure on the switch applied by the rubber band and nut it worked fine. The Green light stayed on and the 2 USB ports and 110-volt outlet were on. See the pictures for my experiment, note the Green Light was on and my devices like my iPad would show as being charged with this set up. It would stop charging as soon as the rubber band and nut were removed. I thought I might be doing something wrong, so I called Ryobi Product Support on the phone. I told them the trouble I was having and asked if I was doing something wrong. The person on the phone said, “let me check on this situation” and put me on hold, saying I will be right back. When the person came back online, they said we need to send you a new inverter. They got my shipping information and said the new inverter would arrive in a couple of weeks. I got the part number for the new unit before hanging up and noted to the person on the line it was a different then the part number that I currently had. Their comment was the part number they gave me was the correct part number (RYi150BG). There was no charge for the replacement inverter. The new inverter arrived in a couple of weeks, and it was different model type than my original Charger and Inverter unit as I had told the Ryobi Product Support folks. The replacement unit (RYi150BG) is only an inverter with 2 USB ports and a 110-volt outlet. The replacement unit cannot be used to charge a Ryobi 18V battery like the original unit. The original unit has a USB port on the front to charge a Ryobi 18V Battery (see pictures). The combination unit came with USB charger and cable. See the pictures for the differences. Being able to charge a Ryobi battery is not a big deal to me, since I have collected several chargers over the years and can charge several batteries at a time. The switch on top of the new unit will stay bright green when pushed on. The Green light glows brightly every time and the new unit (RYi150BG) works perfectly supplying power to the charging ports. I have nothing but praise for Ryobi’s quick response to my problem. I would recommend the new unit (RYi150BG) without a doubt, it works great. I think I would avoid the charger/inverter combination (RYi150C) for a while and see how "common" the switch problem is on that model. In my my review, I gave a combined score of 4 stars for great service and a perfect working replacement unit but took off a star for combo unit with a bad switch.

Great backup power device for low power applications
Although small in size this 150-Watt inverter is loaded with features like multiple output/charging ports (One 120 Volt outlet and dual USB ports (18 watt). A charger brick is included (18 or 30 watts) which will charge a 18V one+ two-amp battery (included) in about an hour and 20 minutes. The inverter has indicator lights while charging. While powering equipment you can use the indicator lights on the battery to see how quick the battery is draining. Although the unit is excellent for charging small devices like cell phones and tablets, I was also interested in larger electronics. With a full charge the inverter would power a 24" smart TV for an hour and ten minutes and a fan for approximately 35 minutes. Since the unit can use any 18V one+ battery considerably longer run times can be achieved using a larger capacity battery. For example, a 4 amp- hour battery should power a small smart TV for approximately 5 hours. Although the inverter is a great backup device it will also be handy for outdoor activities.

              Excellent Invention by RYOBI
Here we have a 150-Watt Power Inverter & Charger for ONE+ 18V Battery by RYOBI. Included in the pack is a 2 Ah battery with LED charge indicator, USB-C to USB-C charging cable, USB-C charging brick, and finally the piece de resistance: the power inverter itself. Using the USB-C cable to charge the battery while it's connected to the inverter makes for a good method to charge the battery, as opposed to charging it on a RYOBI charging base. I have a few RYOBI power tools, so there is no shortage of actual charging bases in my home. There is even a three prong outlet to plug into, which is great for portable power. This power inverter is just the perfect tool for my needs. I can use my batteries to power my cell phone, desk lamp, and other low power devices in the event of a power outtage, while using this awesome little power inverter. Using the included power brick with the included USB-C to USB-C charging cable makes quick work of charging my android devices. So glad I found this amazing device by RYOBI. Thanks to Home Depot for selling it! I highly recommend this product by RYOBI.
