Our 1st experience with this type flooring. Our local contractor installed this floor over 400 sq ft space in 1.5 days which included our bedroom, closet & en suite. He said it was good quality & only found one bad piece in all the cases. He had no breakage installing it and had no complaints about the flooring. I resisted giving 5 stars only b/c I can’t predict the wear and tear ability of it yet. We used the 1.4m Quite Walk brand (made in USA) underlayment w/this flooring to give slight insulation and less noise underfoot and we’re happy to say it didn’t make it too spongy feeling, plus it lessens room echo. As far as how we like the look of this flooring—we really like it! The color is calming, the width is nice, and the texture is great for the space. I was nervous about this product b/c it was a huge change for us from carpet but it is a very cool upgrade and worth the time it took to save up the money for this project. Had enough left over to do our laundry room. One complaint: it is not made in USA. One other note: if you’re going from carpet to this flooring keep in mind it is not as thick so transitions to threshold to other rooms need to be planned out.

          Bad product
I did not purchase my floor from HD but I think information is useful and Shaw will not stand behind their product. Basically said not their problem. Floor does not install easily - will not snap together correctly and stay together. Floor is only 2 yrs old and I have numerous places than the edges and corners have broken. Do not invest your time and money- you will regret purchasing this product. In photo you can see recent breakage - the gray area - the area next to it is a previous break.

Have completed around 1000 sqft of a 1200 sqft basement project, I found that these flooring planks are very sturdy and simple to install even in some difficult areas. Following the guide was very helpful and it is very important to pay attention to the engagement and alignment of each plank as you go, a very small adjustment and light pull into the slot is needed and some tapping with a block will ensure this initially falls together well, followed by a decent amount of tapping down to get the short side grooves to set into place, overcoming some friction. Must have a pretty level floor and I would recommend laying down subfloor (Dricore insulated) over a concrete floor, it makes this much easier to install and very flat. The floor appears to be very resistant to scratches but I use coasters (made of floor pieces) to move larger shelving and furniture into place. I used a chop saw with a finish blade to cut the planks very precisely. I chose to temporarily tack the first row in using screws under where the molding will cover these holes, it allowed me to laser line the first row and kept it stable while installing several more rows, my walls were somewhat crooked so it made this easy then pulled out the screws.

Attractive and water-tight. This Sydney Country Pine color is a very neutral mix of tans and greys. The planks have darker recesses between planks giving a more tiled and dimensional affect to the floor. I like it a lot. It’s not the flat seamless look of other designs. Just something to be aware of when selecting plank flooring. The surface finish is satin and has a rustic honed texture. There are about 6 different wood patterns. They weren't as varied as I would've liked. Quantities of each were different and one that I liked most had fewer. This is not a soft and bendy vinyl. It is fairly hard. It scores with a box cutter and snaps nicely in both directions because of how hard it is. The backing has an integrated vapor barrier, so we did not put plastic down between it and our concrete slab floor. The backing is a very firm pad (not felt), so the whole floor is quite firm but certainly feels warmer than the concrete did. Our concrete slab tilts off level halfway through the floor so slightly that we did not level it and just ran the planks across that pitch change. The planks bended enough to still hug the concrete throughout. The locking doesn’t have as strong a discernible snap as others, but it does create a solid waterproof seal, which we tested to verify. No water goes through the seams. We hit every joint with a rubber mallet and hammering block to ensure tight seams. We have a concrete stair step that has a rounded corner. A mini multi-tool worked great to cut the curve and the planks bend nicely with heat, time and force to be able to wrap a plank around the curved riser and glue it on. I found a couple of matching transition moldings for this floor, but nothing that will bend around the curved edge of the step, so we are still deliberating the best edge treatment before installing on the step. Overall, we are very pleased with this flooring. It looks and feels wonderful.

Sydney Clove color; Nice quality plank with rubber backing that saves you the work of having to put underlayment. The backing looks like waterproof to prevent mildew if water spills happen to fall through the cracks. The installation is fairly easy with the exception of the cutting, unless you have the right tools, but the connection is straight forward self locking in place. I took a photo of the plank next to the hardwood natural finish red oak so you know how the one I have compares to that. I have the Sydney Clove color, which is more brownish and darker than natural red oak hardwood flooring. It’s a nice rustic looking color.

Thank you Lorena for the wonderful review on Sydney Clove. We are delighted to know that you find that the planks are of nice quality and that the attached pad is definitely a bonus. Very nice flooring. The main thing to remember with flooring like this is to have a flat level surface to install them. If there are any holes in the surface you will need to patch them to avoid having the flooring dip or let any holes work their way in. You will need as roller to press them down onto the adhesive. If you press along the planks it will add surface tension and they will spring back and leave gaps.

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit this great review on Sydney. All subfloors must be clean, flat, dry and structurally sound. The correct preparation of the subfloor is a major part of a
successful installation. Subfloor must be flat – 3/16" in 10' or 1/8" in 6'. Use cementitious patching and leveling compounds that meet or exceed maximum moisture level and pH requirements. Use of gypsum-based patching and/or leveling compounds which contain Portland or high alumina cement and meet or exceed the compressive strength of 3,000 psi are acceptable. It is recommended that you roll the flooring immediately after installation with a 100 lbs. 3‐section roller. Thank you again for the great review and the wonderful advise to our future readers. Shaw Sydney Country Pine 7 in. W x 48 in. L Resilient Vinyl Plank Flooring (18.91 sq. ft./case) This flooring is terrific!! While I am sure it is not recommended we installed this in our RV. Many years ago we installed vinyl plank in the living area of the same RV from another manufacture and we have really liked it. Our original vinyl plank had an adhesive edge while this new floor from Shaw uses a snap lock design. This flooring arrived well packaged, all the long edges of the box were surrounded in industrial corner cardboard edging. We did not have one damaged plank. This product is thick, heavy and should withstand lots of punishment, it also comes with a really great underlayment pre-installed. I did not notice any offensive odors coming from the vinyl. No instructions were included but they can be found here on The Home Depot website. It can be cut with many of your normal tools, I used a combination of sliding miter saw, jig saw, mat knife and a Dremel tool for fine tuning around some edges. Every tool worked great. Laid this out just like laminate flooring, started in the back and worked left to right. The long sides pressed down into place and a rubber mallet worked to seat the ends, I also used the mallet on the long side. All of the flat area was installed as a floating floor but on my step I had to use an adhesive. The installation could not have gone better. This floor is beautiful, it looks and feels almost like real wood. I think anyone who uses this will be happy.

Thank you Texas123 for this amazing review on Sydney Country Pine. We are very delighted that you have shared all of these amazing comments with us and our future readers on this great product. We are so happy that you love the look and feel of your beautiful new floors and that your installation went smoothly. The post installation temperature range allowed is an ambient room temperature between -25°F and 155°F (31.6°- 68.3°C), which is the biggest concern with installing the product in an RV. This allowance is for floating floors only and does not apply to glue-down installations. If you are in need of a waterproof flooring solution you may want to check out the Shaw Sydney Country Pine 7 in. W x 48 in. L Resilient Vinyl Plank Flooring as a possible solution. The Luxury Vinyl flooring is completely waterproof so this makes is a all around worry proof flooring solution. The pattern is nice look and a few of the planks vary in pattern. I do think looking at the planks they look more plastic like then several of the other flooring solutions I have in my house. The planks come with a rubber attached base that is really nice and I think better then any base I have seen with per-attached padding. Overall I would say this is slightly above average flooring (most since the look is only ok) that comes with not much in the way of installation instructions.
