Will this protect against low voltage (brown out) as well? I have had this installed by an electrician.
Asked by: Jane
Hello, No, a surge protection device can't protect against low voltage or power outage. To protect against a low voltage or power outage you need a voltage regulator (for low voltage) or a UPS system (for power outage). Regards, Customer Care Center

Yes o no thanks
Asked by: Chaly
Hello, I have 2 units installed into my home power panel, one on the main panel and one by the hot tub, this is a wet location and I did contact the OEM and asked about this location. His response was that if the unit is not subject to getting submerged in water directly then this would be OK. He also stated that getting splashed occasionally was also OK. Calling there tech support was simple (square D has the contact info on there web page), allow some time to get to a person (about 20 min) the rep was very helpful and informative.

Do I connect directly to the main lugs of my panel? My service panel is in concrete.

A flush mount kit IS available for the HEPD80 whole house surge protector , and is a part number HEPD80MKF. For a single-phase, 120/240 3-wire application, connect the two HEPD black wires to an appropriate 2-pole circuit breaker within the panel. For a single-phase, 120 2-wire application, connect the two HEPD black wires together to an appropriate single pole circuit breaker. Connect the white wire to the neutral bar, the ground wire to the ground bar. Please refer to instruction bulletin. Regards, Customer Care

Can the HEPD 80 be installed on a Reliance main panel? If the device is hit with a surge, must it then be replaced or can it be reset?
Asked by: Roberto
You should be able to wire it to any breaker panel - it requires it's own (I believe 30 amp) double breaker - I have it attached directly to the side of the box.

Square D 50 kA Home Electronics Protective Device (HEPD) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 152.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well - think about mounting options first. Installs easily, and is outdoor rated which was a plus for me. Think through your mounting options before mounting. In my case I mounted it on the bottom of the outdoor load center, and in the front row of knockouts. Only after testing did I realize that it blocks the door from closing properly as it sits flush against the bottom. I ended up putting two metal washers on the top to drop it down a bit so the door can close properly. Secondly I mounted it on the far left side of the load center, and found the neutral wire was *just barely* long enough to reach the neutral binding post. Works fine but the wiring isn't as neat as I had hoped. Since my load center was already full, I purchased a SquareD QO20303020 tandem breaker. This allowed me to remove a 30a 220v breaker and provide the combination 20A 2 pole for the HEPD and 30A that I was replacing. See the pictures for more information. Moral of the story - on a load center with a door, it should be mounted in the center on the rear row of knockouts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Home Electronics Protective Device This is a great way add surge protection to your entire home. I was tired of buying new surge protectors for each area in my home where I have sensitive electronics. Like most families now we all have tons of devices that are venerable to power surges. This can be a DIY install but I would say that if you do not know what you are doing to call a pro. However if you are good with your hands you can do this easy. Remember to shut off the main and always treat any electrical wiring as though it is live. With that said install in straight forward. Pop out any 1/2inch knockout on the panel. From there you will wire this up like any other 220v line. Each black wire is hooked up to one leg on each breaker and the white hooks up to the natural bar. Dont forget to attach the ground wire to the ground bar. You are all set once thats complete. The module will have a status light letting if it has errors or is ready to be changed. Overall I would recommend this to anyone with a home that has electronics.

Excellent product install was about 15min and I dont know why I waited so long? The first thing I have noticed after the install was my house is no longer flickering during our Florida thunder and lightning storms. Come to think about I have not had to reset the time on all my appliances due to short outages or surges.

Since the item has been installed there's been no way of determining whether the product will perform according to specifications but the electrician that installed commented this is the most sought after HEPD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still going strong Bought two years ago and still working fine. Plenty of thunder storms and power bounces. It may have saved electronics and appliances but there’s no way to tell. Still it gives me piece of mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A piece of mind Install was a breeze, but I had to move some breakers around to get the double pole breaker for the HEPD close to the main 100 AMP main cut off switch. This should be done so that the HEPD catches the surge before it reaches any other breaker below it. I kept the wires coming off the HEPD short as possible, as they explained in the documentation. Could not be happier with this product, but time will tell if something ever happens. I would not recommend installing this yourself if you are not comfortable are familiar of what you are doing. If not call a qualified electrician.
