Product is great! I use it not only around my trees but also used it in my window seals on the outside to keep the ants away. I cut an unused piece of molding about 2"x36" (the width of the window) and just laid it in the window seal on the outside of the window after applying Tanglefoot. Once the ants gets into Tanglefoot, it's stuck. They will not be coming into your house. I also had birds pecking on my windows and making a mess on the window seal. The Tanglefoot on the piece of unused molding did the trick also. I had tried everything to get rid of these birds, but this works. I don't know whether it's the smell or the sticky like substance that keeps the birds away but it works.

Orotho's Tanglefood was first introduced to the American gardener in the late 1800's. My review is on the 15 oz. tub of this tried and proven tree insect barrier. When you first open the tub you see a carmel colored substance similar to sticky peanut butter. The application is fairly simple with your imagination you need to wrap your tree that is being invaded by insects.Tanglefoot has a paper tape offered. I did not have the tape so I used plastic wrap to wrap the tree, 4' up, then apply the Tanglefood coating. It works, any bug crawling up the trunk will be caught by the sticky substance.

This product is sold as a kit online from Home depot. It comes with a waterproof paper tape that you put around the trunk of your tree and then smear this product on that tape and wait for it to become covered with insects and then replace it . I was unable to locate this paper tape at any store. it was suggested i use painters paper tape and just smear it on that. . I did that , but realize now i should have used a waterproof paper of some sort. It has taken me a long time to review this product as i kept searching for the tape to use with it. . Then i asked a home depot clerk and he said it is only available as a kit. . but the kit is not available for testing , when they send it to you all you get is the tub. needs to be applied with a putty knife and that must be cleaned with mineral spirits , to remove it from skin first use baby oil then wash with soap and water. If the bark is loose on the tree you have to put some sort of cotton batting behind it to seal it so the insects have to craw over the gooey mixture to be effective.

This product, Tanglefoot Tree Insect Barrier 15 oz. Tub Ready-To-Use has been around since 1885 and is just as effective today as it was then. Tanglefoot is a great method of controlling crawling insects in trees including those that are too tall to spray. It’s a simple premise: wrap the tree with sticky goo that insects and other types of creepy crawly vermin can’t walk through without getting stuck. In some instances Tanglefoot prevents harmful insects from climbing into the tree and in others it prevents insects from completing their life cycle. In my instance, it is preventing ants from being the nuisance they can be. We put up a zip line for my grandkids. It’s a simple set up, but the ants, ever opportunistic, climbed up the tree and walked down the line and set up shop in the zip line mechanism. So now I have the Tanglefoot non-chemical based insect control teaching those pesky ants a thing or two. I did apply it high enough that it won’t become a contact issue for the kids. The Tanglefoot has a grease-like consistency and the process was a lot like greasing the plows. It took most of a 15-ounce container to encircle a 12” diameter oak. Directions say to apply the barrier in a 3” wide band about 1/16” thick. I did try to video some ants getting stuck in the goo but as they approached the barrier they turned and walked back down the tree trunk. That’s not as exciting, but it works for me.

Tanglefoot does just that--it is a FANDAMTASTIC product....has captured pests around cuke, tomato, pepper etc.. that destroy our garden crops...used yellow thick paper with a small smear of this product and could not believe my eyes with its beneficial capture of harmful insects.

Very good ant deterrent to keep the ants from climbing up my tree and from getting to my roof by climbing the support structure. It is very sticky and I had been looking for something like this...when I was younger our maple tree had worms that turned into moths and they ate all the leaves, we used a product similar to this. It is a rather small tub and couldn't find a larger size, but for the ant issue I had it was enough. Instructions talk about a band, not sure what they are referring but I used some cotton pads that I had that weren't used for anything and wrapped that around the tree and then applied this product in a thin 2" band around the tree. The ants cant cross it and eventually stopped trying and made other arrangements. It worked the way I needed it to work and was happy with its performance.

So far so good. I have 2 months in the making on my battle of ants vs. a silver maple tree. This stuff is pliable and non drying which makes application easy. I smeared it around the trunk of the tree were the ants commonly like to travel to the crotch of the tree. There is no way they can bypass it. Not sure if they're all dead or just went elsewhere, but they aren't here!

This product is well worth it. With the rise in evasive insects in our area it will be most beneficial! It is extremely is to apply, please wear gloves. Depending on the size of the tree being applied you will need more than one for a standard tree. I got this product late in the season but I applied it anyway to see how it will yield thru the winter. After applying it there were some courageous bugs trying to climb my beech tree with no success!! I will try and update during the caterpillar season.
