This has nothing to do with the question. I have 2 of these blowers in my garage and neither one works. The on off switch doesn't work and its the only part you can't purchase or replace. Also I have the Bagger that connects to a barrel. This does not work either. The hose is way too short and it won't stay on the barrel. I will never buy another toro product. I called them and they would't do anything about this.

Does it mulch small sticks (1/2") and 5 foot tall weed stems?

I would say it does the smaller sticks pretty well so far. As for weed stems, if they are somewhat dried up it should work. Although they need to be sucked into it so that may be hard. Try breaking it up and throwing it on a pile of the leaves so they help carry it into the impeller.

What is the basic difference between the Toro 51621 and the 51619?

I think it is the amount of power and suction it has. I went with the 51621 as it had much more power than 51619.

Can you use this leaf blower to blow snow?

Well, I’ve done it? But it is electrical? Blowing snow kind of blows snow everywhere. And snow melts , so probably not a great idea.

How do you release the black blower nozzle from the red blower motor

Asked by Derf September 28, 2019

You would flip upside down the push forward on the little red release where the nozzle and the machine meets, once that part is done them push forward for the second pie e to release. That’s it, very easy once you get the hang of it.

How does this differ from model 51619 which is about $15 less expensive?

I do not think it's that powerful to pick up rocks, however I only use the blower portion of the machine.

Bag is Junk!
Customer review from toro.com logo
Received Toro 51621 on Oct 4. My husband is fairly pleased with the vacuum, but not so much with the blowing. Today, Oct 21st he shows me that the bag already has 2 holes at the seams.

The weight of this tool is not too heavy, its simple engine system makes it easy to be maintained and cleaned, while it is very powerful for blowing and vacuuming leaf. The reduce ratio of vacuum is 1 leaf broken into average 2 or 4 or much smaller pieces, good enough for my lawn in Virginia. This tool save me about $495 fall leaf fee in Year 2019. Also, I had had shoulder pain after sitting in front of a computer for too many hours a day for many years. Now, the pain is healed after I clean the leaf in year 2019 and sleep better. The only one thing that I would learn from the manufacturer - why so many dogs are barking at me while I am vacuuming leaf? The dog owners told me that the while TORO leaf collection bag becomes so big w/ the air scaring the dogs that the walking-by dogs immediately react and are barking at the large while bag. Is it true? If yes, can please add this in TORO manual as a guideline so that I can share this information with the dog owners to stay away while I am vacuuming leaf using this tool?

“Blew Away” my expectations. The power and versatility of this blower far exceeded how I thought an electric powered blower would perform. The Toro Ultra Plus is able to quickly blow, suck and mulch the debris from my yard which is surrounded by upwards of 15 trees. Wet leaves were not a problem.

Zipper broke after 3 uses.
Customer review from Toro.com logo
The motor is powerful and it has no issues steading leaves. The bag's zipper broke after the bag was filled 3 times. This seems to be a reoccurring issue with many people.

I bought this specifically to shred leaves in the fall to use the following year for compost. No complaints at all, it has served me well for 2 seasons now and I shred a lot of leaves. I have 3 big bins of finely shredded leaves that started out as dozens and dozens of bagged leaves! Unfortunately, the zipper on the dump bag started to rip but I was able to find another online for a nice price. I highly recommend this very affordable shredder, well worth the price!

This does what I wanted it to do - vacuum up leaves and mulch them into small pieces. I'm fairly sure it would be more than adequate as a blower, since it is rated at 12 amps (make sure to use a heavy enough cord). Because of the inconvenience of the cord, I tend to use my gas blower (and rake) to blow the leaves into convenient piles, then suck them up and mulch them into the Toro attachment that fits over a trash can or other large capacity container (the one I use is a large plastic tube designed to fit into a disposable yard waste bag). The smaller canvas bag included with the unit is fine for smaller jobs, such as vacuuming the bush trimmings. It is much more ergonomically suited to the job than the conversion for my gas blower. I believe the extra mulching attachment included with this particular blower is worthwhile having. I've vacuumed some fairly moist leave without a clogging problem. With leaves, I usually lay the unit on the ground and rake the leaves into the nozzle with the unit running at full speed (see photo). It works.

We appreciate that in this busy world of ours you took the time to share your high praise of your Toro product! While we commend your creativity in how you are using the vaccum to collect the leaves, we do want to caution that this method would not be a safe way to use the vacuum feature. This could result in the machine overheating or to cause the impeller blade to go off balance. Thanks! Toro

Recently I had been looking for a more powerful leaf blower which would actually work upon pine needles, because my ‘as seen on TV’ brand blower had a difficult time doing so. After reading several online reviews, as well as watching various ‘You Tube’ user videos, I opted for the Toro model #51621 (w/ the extra accessories). Well, as a blower, this unit is very powerful and does a great job at blowing away dry pine needles off my driveway, sidewalks, and deck; however, as a vacuum, it will only pick-up dry pine needle ‘stragglers’ (with some coaxing) at the highest speed setting. Sadly, this machine will not pick-up small clumps of dry pine needles. I’m sure that this is due to the fact the opening (diameter) of the vacuum’s pick-up tube is just too large; therefore, not allowing adequate suction power (as clumps of dry pine needles are substantially less in mass, but heavier than leaves; i.e. more air is actually vacuumed up the tube than pine needles). Now, I will admit that the metal impeller’s mulching feature did a pretty good job on those pine needles which the vacuum did pick-up, as it rendered them to small particles and some just to virtual dust. The oscillating attachment works very well (even upon the pine needles) and precludes me from having to sweep the unit back and forth as I’m walking forward. Though it does allow for better speed control, I just wished this unit had an additional on/off switch (emergency shut-off) in addition to the variable speed control dial. Converting to vacuum mode was initially a bit cumbersome, because I had a bit of difficulty removing the blower assembly/tube. The vacuum bag is a bit awkward, because it sticks out in front of the user; thus, forcing me to actually hold the bag’s strap in my right hand (along with the machine) as I’m guiding the vacuum’s pick-up tube with my left hand. Slinging the strap over either shoulder would just not work correctly for me. The bag’s bottom zipper is robust and easily allowed me to empty the contents right into a trash can. Unlike some of the other reviewers, for me, a cord lock isn’t necessary, because at time of purchase, I had also purchased the correct 100’ locking-type 14 gauge exterior extension cord which actually locks onto the unit’s short inlet plug (polarized dongle) cord. The cord is a model #630-34033CR 100 ft. 14/3 red 'StayPlug' extension cord (featuring locking technology) by Cerrowire and is also available at The Home Depot. The only drawback is for the fact that dragging a 100’ 14 gauge electrical cord behind me does add to the overall weight of the unit. Note: A 100’ 14 gauge (correct/required) extension cord is substantially heavier and stiffer than the usual 100’ orange 12 gauge (incorrect/not recommended) extension cord. Well, it appears (that at least for me) this unit will just be used as a blower only. Unfortunately, I will just return to raking-up the pine needles into a snow shovel and then transferring them to a trash can as before. It would’ve been really nice if this unit could also vacuum small clumps of dry pine needles as well. Heck, it would be nice if Toro made available a smaller vacuum tube diameter adapter to be used solely on pine needles, as I would most certainly purchase it...hint...hint.

Good power for both blower and vacuum. Fairly easy to assemble and change from blower to vacuum. Two piece chute for vacuum is a bit challenging to disassemble due to size and shape - hard to get a grip.
