I purchased these in a third time is the charm attitude replacing the rusting originals, spring loaded metal hinges that had spring break internally, and finally these. I will admit that I used longer screws to secure them into older softer wood posts to keep them secure. They are holding up well for 3 mos. now without any slippage, reduced spring tension, or door movement. I am surprisingly happy with a plastic that is well made and pretty well sealed.

These are heavy hinges capable of closing a wooden or vinyl gate. They are easy to install and there are Phillips head screws supplied. The adjustment for closing speed is done with a flat screwdriver on either the top or bottom. They are a matte black that looks nice. These are probably particularly useful for pool safety, but I like them on my garden gates and livestock pen gates.

This is my first experience with a polymer and stainless steel hinge. I'm used to metal hinges that rust out and get slow with time. This is heavy duty, holds a gate up to 154 # with the 2 hinges in the bag. You have to use both hinges, top and bottom, and remove any old hinges, for these to work properly. The speed at which they close is adjustable and should be set the same for both top and bottom. I love knowing that the gate will close behind me! Clear instructions, all hardware included although I will probably install with longer screws to really sink into the wood.

I just installed my Tru-Close 4-1/2 in. x 6-3/4 in. Heavy Duty Hinges. Hinges come in a black polymer finish. I think they look great and work well. The kit comes with instructions, you will need the instructions to adjust the hinges to close at the rate you want. Kit also comes with black self tapping screws. The hinges were quick and easy to install. The most time took adjusting the spring rate of the hinges. It looks like the hinges will last a long time. Very pleased with the product.

Very heavy duty and strong hinge. Black finish matches the D&D latch set. Both hinges will close up to 154-pound doors. Adjustable for the weight of any door and the speed of closing. Polymer and stainless-steel hinge plates are large 4-1/2 in. x 6-3/4 in. and control the door. Easy to install and sealed well for long life without lubrication. Adjustable from either end of the joint. The adjustment is done by depressing hard on the joint and can be adjusted in incremental levels of tension. Caps cover the screws.

These are fantastic self closing hinges that eliminate the common issue of rust and corrosion. The hinges are stainless steel with a tough polycarbonate body. The combination should take care of any rust and corrosion. They come with coated screws that match the black finish to complete a clean installation.
One of the features I really like is the adjustable closing tension. Different style, size of weights of gates need different spring tension and most self-closing gates don't have this. This way you won't have lighter gates being slammed or heavy gates not closing all the way.

The True-Close Gate hinge is handsome and the real deal. It is large at 4-1/2" x 6-3/4" to close a gate up to 154 pounds. While it may look to be plastic, a closer look will reveal a black polymer with stainless steel innards. (You receive two hinges in the pack.) Matching black screws are provided; in your application, you may require a longer screw. The screws are self-taping, meaning that they will drill a pilot hole into vinyl or wood prior to the thread part of the screw grabbing the material. Directions are very clear: secure to gate first, then to the post. The hinge is adjustable from either side with a flat blade screwdriver. You depress the large button on either end and turn one click at a time. Remember to do both hinges at the same tension to keep the closure even. The description says they are self-lubricating for durability and absence of maintenance; however, the manufacturer states graphite is the lubrication of choice (not a petroleum product). The manufacturer also indicates on the directions that an optional safety cover is available, preventing toddlers from using the hinge as a step up to climb over the gate (part TCHDCAPS53). Gates take a lot of abuse and endure a lot of use, whatever hinge you purchase should be up to the task. When the hinge fails, the gate is left over defeating the purpose of ingress protection to a pool or property area. One nice feature that you appreciate only if you know is that when the gate and hinge are open, the inner workings of the hinge are still fully covered from little fingers and the elements.

Shut the gate! I feel like it was a standard part of my vernacular. Yelling at the kids to not let the dogs out. It never really dawned on me that I could get outdoor hinges to self-close the gate until now! We installed the Tru-Close black polymer self-closing hinges on our heavy fence gate and now our dogs are mad at us because they have nowhere to go roam. In all seriousness, these things make close the gate with ease and are not big and bulky which is a huge plus for the aesthetics of a white vinyl fence setup. We have a screened in porch with a screen door that had a spring to pull it close. The spring rusted, we live near the coast, and it stretched. These hinges are the perfect upgrade. Internal springs on each hinge, stainless steel construction and black polymer coating means no rusting and long term use. Much cleaner than the old spring and no hazard for the little ones (who loved to grab the spring).
