Q:I have the dark walnut oil. Can I add stain to it to make it darker, and if so, which type would mix in the best?
by|May 18, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out. We do not recommend adding any additional colorant or stain to our Rust-Oleum Watco Danish Oil as this will alter the formulation of the oil and can hinder the performance and penetration. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Q:Can this applied after staining? I used a different stain and was going to try the natural over it?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out, Jimmy. While Rust-Oleum Watco Danish Oil provides a rich finish for wooden surfaces, we do not recommend applying to previously stained surfaces. Since most stains are also penetrating products this will hinder the penetration of the Danish Oil and can leave a tacky finish on the surface. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Q:I have stained 1/4" red oak planks with watco danish oil natural and allowed it to dry for 72 hours. What is the ideal clear gloss coat to seal the wood to prevent foot traffic darkening the wood and prevent oil from getting on feet or shoes?

Q:Can I add Varathane Early American Classic Wood Interior Stain to natural Watco Danish oil and use this mixture for several coats on oak wood, or would the different drying times cause a problem?
        by|Jan 2, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate your interest. Due to the variations in formulas, we do not recommend mixing Rust-Oleum Watco Danish Oil with any of our Varathane products or different Watco products. Instead, we recommend mixing together different colors of the Watco Danish Oil. This will ensure proper drying and performance. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

          So Easy
I've used this product before on unfinished furniture with great results. This time I used it on oak cap trim with the same awesome easy results. You can't screw it up and its water tesistant and offers protection. I just clean with a damp towel if it gets dusty. I used cheesecloth to apply and paper towel to dry it after applying.

Beautiful finish on kiln dried walnut
I used this on some walnut pieces that I fashioned as end pieces for a keyboard. My final sand was using 400. I spent a few hours sanding, orbital w 120 to shape edges and smooth surfaces, then 220 by hand with grain and 400 by hand with grain. I followed instructions and did two applications. The finish is beautiful and very natural looking. The oil helps bring out the features of the grain and catch the eye. I am very satisfied.

Good stain. Initially I thought it would be closer to a clear coat but it gave it a more vibrant look. Overall it came out really nice, went on really easy.

I just really like working with this product. This is my choice when the wood is going to get bumped and dinged. The surface remains flexible. Doesn't crack at the impact point. This smells nice. I use it for a natural waxed look, but drier to the touch. Not tacky. It penetrates the wood and you wipe it off completely, to the point that it feels almost dry to the touch. It dries in a day. Hint: leaving excess oil on the wood is not better. The excess stays gummy. You must reapply oil to re-soften the gum and wipe it back down to that almost dry feeling.

I use watco on about all my wood projects. I like the ease of use, just wipe it on and in a few minutes wipe off the excess. I also like the variety of colors and use med walnut most often. Watco danish oil also smells better to me than other brands.

It was easy to apply using gloves & a wiping cloth. After 15 mins I did a second application. The only drawback was the odor of the product. The smell was over powering to my customers.

The online applications is not user friendly. It is very difficult to track the previous orders. I found the app shows the items available in store but the staff told me it was out of stock. Payment should accept Apple Pay
