You can ignore the ground wire for this outlet. If you have any metallic component as part of the light fixture, you can attach the ground wire to that.

can this fixture be painted on the outside

They are surely not designed to be painted and the ceramic can become quite hot during operation. I don't think the ceramic would take paint well and it would likely burn off. Really designed to be inside a fixture and not exposed as the electrical terminals are open /exposed.

Can i use on out side lamp

How does it mount to the fixture, does it screw through the bottom of the socket to the fixture?

Asked by MT June 12, 2017

this socket is designed to screw onto a threaded hollow rod like that commonly found in free standing lamps and clg fan light kits that have arms. The wires feed thru the hollow rod and the socket screws onto the end. If the existing socket doesn't look just like this, it probably won't work.

This was used to replace a broken porcelain socket in my bathroom vanity. This socket was close match. I unscrewed the metal bracket that came with the new socket and used the original metal bracket in the fixture. The wire from the new socket was barely long enough to come thru the back of the light's tubing. It only sticks out about an inch long, phew! I recommend using dollar store craft/floral thin wire to guide the new wires thru the thin tube in the fixture. Then I spliced in the new socket's wiring into the fixture's original wiring, and the vanity works just fine now. It was an easy fix.

Good quality. Would have preferred the wires to be secured via screws instead of being riveted so I can avoid splicing or connecting with wire nuts.
