A:  No, the hole does not go all the way through - it is actually just a pocket in which the lifting hook sits. The pocket is approximately 6" long, 2.5" wide, 3" deep with the lifting hook approximately centered in the middle. The block is intended primarily to provide a larger footprint for the post and disperse some of the load. Please check with local building code to verify specific requirements.
