Q:Just got this out of the packaging, and the LED only turns on if I fully ratchet it, then clamp as hard as I can. Neither ends of the calibration tool fits in the gap. The hex hole for calibration also doesn't turn counter-clockwise to open the gap, the included hex key actually bent in our attempt... What's wrong with this thing?

A:  Mine worked very well for what it was designed for as a mid range price tool. From the sound of your experience maybe you a heavier duty or commercial grade tool. For do it yourself stuff I was impressed. If I was doing professional installs I would opt for a more expensive commercial grade tool.

A:  Thats the point. Have you calibrated the tool. Light wont stay on, just goes on as you pull the trigger.

A:  My tool lights when there is about 1/16in gap between sides of the clamp pinch. The gap is adjustable. Sounds like there is a problem with yours. If you want to use it just squeeze until you get that 1/16 in space.

A:  Only for the LED light, takes 2 watch style batteries. The tool comes with an extra set of batteries. The batteries aren't required to actually use the tool but rather to turn on the LED light when the recommended amount of clamp torque has been reached. But if you used PEX pinch clamps before, generally you know if the clamp has reached the right torque. The LED makes for cheap insurance especially since this tool is well priced even if it didn't have the LED. I've priced many of these pinch tools. This was my selection and I'm very pleased with it.

A:  This crimper will not work reliably with crimp rings made by Zurin (as the Apollo rep stated). Problem is sometimes crimp rings are sold through 3rd parties, private labeled etc. I discovered this the hard way when I bought several large bulk packs at local plumbing supply store. Turns out they were Zurin crimps. So, I have to make sure to keep them separate, for use with Zurin compatible crimp tools. Irritating because I didn't realize this at the time, and the plumbing supply house didn't mention it. I really like this crimp tool. Had it about 2 yrs, and has been reliable and easy to use. It works well with Apollo brand and Apollo compatible crimp rings. It can be difficult to find crimps labeled accurately; so I just keep packs of Apollo brand crimp rings with the tool, so there is no problem with compatibility. I found a couple off-brand crimps did not work correctly (leaked), so assume they were Zurin made, private labeled. Just stick with Apollo crimps if possible, or at least Apollo compatible.. should work fine. I bought this tool just to do some confined space work, but ended up using it a lot more than I thought. I prefer the older style copper compression rings, as they virtually never have problems - but they are much more difficult to use, especially in confined spaces. This crimp tool works well; but make sure to use only Apollo or Apollo compatible crimp rings.

A:  Pinch clamps manufactured by Zurn are of a different design than the most common pinch clamps available in the marketplace and thus are not compatible with this tool. Thanks for the question. Should we be able to assist you with any of your future projects, please contact us directly at 1.888.229.2874.

A:  The way it works is to pinch down on the lugs. I think they are probably referring to copper crimp rings - it wont work with those because they don't have lugs..

A:  This works on all standard PEX pinch clamps. Some PEX style fittings use a copper collar that needs to be cinched over the tubing once the fitting is inserted. This requires a different style tool all together Yet another brand uses an expander to enable the fitting to be inserted into the tubing. Often a heat gun is used to shrink the tubing back to it's original size (memory).
