Answer This Question
A: Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your question! Typically, the new drywall will need to be primed before applying texturing to your walls (this primer would be a great option to seal the surface). An additional coat of primer may be needed on the textured surface as well before painting. You may also want to reach out to the manufacturer of the texturing you will be using to see if they recommend applying their product on a primed surface. Best of luck with your project! - Sara

A: Texture goes directly on the sheetrock and then you must use a primer on the new texture once dry, then paint. Or, you can use a paint and primer combo. We used Home Depot's PPG brands and they were great.

A: I did, as I didn't want to take the risk. I feel it seals better with primer, and you will not have the paint soak into the drywall and the joints. It results in a smoother, more even finish.

A: Hi TC, thanks for writing in with your question. Yes, the Drywall Primer can be used on new drywall before texturing. However, you'll need to topcoat with a low sheen paint, such as flat or eggshell. If you plan to use a higher sheen, I recommend using the Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer and Sealer, (No. 75) instead. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

A: Don't know why you would prime over the green or wall board you are tiling. I don't think this is a good idea.

A: Hi mory, thanks for writing in with your question. Our primers are designed to be topcoated with paint. As we have not tested tiles over them, unfortunately, we cannot recommend this application. I suggest checking with the tile manufacturer for a recommendation. Have a great day! -Giovanna

A: Hi Ari, thanks for writing in with your question. Our Drywall primer is perfect for new porous drywall. For your ceiling with recently removed popcorn texture, I recommend our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer and Sealer, (No. 75) instead. Have a great day! -Giovanna

A: I only sanded the where the joint compound was. I did exactly the same thing, covered nice, but you need to determine the paint finish is in accordance with what's on this can.

A: Provided the walls have been properly cleaned from paste the primer sealer should work just fine, I my self would use two coats of it to ensure good sealing and adhesion of the new paint.

A: If eggshell is anything close to "flat" finish, this product won't work. Also, it won't work with satin, semi-gloss, gloss, etc. Unfortunately for me and likely countless other consumers, I used this product to be covered with a satin finish. Won't work! And, Behr hides this fact deep in the fine print!!!

A: Hi Gayle,
Thank you for your question. Our Drywall Primer and Sealer can be used on the walls only if the all of the wallpaper and glue have been removed. If there's some glue leftover, use an oil-based primer instead; water-based primers can react with the glue. I hope this was helpful. -Edith

A: I waited 4 hours for my recoat but that was during the winter and a house temp of 68 degrees. Now with the warmer months coming I would wait the hour and recoat. No problems with recoat or top coat on mine.

A: Hello Joe,
Thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Behr Premium Plus Interior Drywall Primer & Sealer can be applied using an airless sprayer. The recommended tip size is .015-.019 with a 60 mesh filter. It can be thinned with up to 8 ounces of water per gallon if needed. I recommend adding one ounce at a time. I hope this information helps and good luck with your project. Best, Roxana N.

A: Can be sprayed on. Dilution depends upon the sprayer you are using. Try test areas to see your results.

A: Hi OWNDIY,
Thank you for your questions! This primer is ideal for sealing bare drywall in low moisture areas, however, it is not recommended under satin, semi-gloss, and hi-gloss paint. Any of our sheens would work in a garage, so if you prefer to use a glossier finish, I recommend priming the drywall with our All-In-One Primer & Sealer instead (https://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-Plus-1-gal-White-Acrylic-Interior-Primer-Sealer-and-Stain-Blocker-07501/100144295). This primer will seal bare drywall as well and can be topcoated with all sheens. Best - Sara

A: would work well for new construction. As far as sheen thats a individual call. I wanted shine go I did gloss.

A: Yes, this is a great primer for new drywall or bare wood. After priming, Behr recommends that you topcoat with a flat or eggshell finish only. If you wish to topcoat with a higher sheen, use Premium Plus All-In-One Primer & Sealer instead, which can be viewed here: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-Plus-1-gal-Stain-Blocking-Primer-and-Sealer-Interior-07501/100144295 .

A: Hello Chaz, thank you for your question. Yes! Our Drywall Primer & Sealer can be used on your newly done drywall. However, keep in mind that we only recommend topcoating our No. 73 primer with lower sheen paints (Flat, Matte, Eggshell). If you're using a higher sheen, it may be a better option to use our All-In-One Primer & Sealer No. 75 instead, as this primer can be topcoated with any sheen. Hope this info helps. Happy priming, and best of luck with your project! -Joanna
