Q:Would this Fan suffice to draw moisture out of a small bathroom that only has a sink and toilet? Has anyone noticed if it is noisy on the outside as I might have to vent it near an area on my patio where we hang out? Thank you.

A: Yes
by|May 5, 2023
A: Yes. This unit operates at 70 CFM. This would be sufficient for a half-bath that's up to 50 square feet. The noise level is 3.5 sones. At this level, you will hear the fan. It's still below 4.0 sones, but you will hear some noise. Thank you.

A: I'm certain it would... and likewise odors. It might be good to hook up a motion sensitive switch or time delay switch so it runs for five minutes or so after the bathroom is empty.

Q:Is there a filter available for this fan? Is it suitable to be installed over a stove? How many watts of power does it use? I assume it is 120 volts?

Answer This Question
A: It did not come with a filter.
I do not believe that this unit is not recommended for over stove use.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Nope, it is not designed as stove exhaust fan. Yes this is designed for 120 volt electric systems.
by|May 4, 2023
A: No and I don't think one would work due to design. Cleaning is fairly easy. Just pop off the grill and vac. And the motor can also be removed fairly easy if you want to brush out the tubing.
by|May 4, 2023
A: It uses approximately 84 watts. Yes, it is 120 volts. It is not suitable for use over a stove.
However, the 509 and 509S can be installed over a stove. For additional assistance, please contact our Technical Support Department at 800-637-1453.

Q:will I have to cut out and patch the hole or does the grille cover the hole completly
by|Apr 21, 2016

Answer This Question
A: It does stick out a little. In fact, I discovered that cutting the hole you mentioned made doing the wiring and getting the screws for the box back in place easier. Just make sure to not enlarge the hole where the lip of inside part of the fan has to screw into the wall. The rest is easy to spackle.

A: During installation of the Broan 512M, you will remove the electrical wiring box before mounting the housing in the wall. Only after the housing is mounted and the electric is hooked up will you install the electrical wiring box back into the housing. This will prevent cutting a larger hole and patching the wall after installation. If you need further assistance with the installation of this unit, please call Technical Support at 1-800-637-1453.

Q:I see the fan has a 6 inch exhaust. I have a 3 inch exhaust already through the outside of the house. Can I use a reducer to go from 6 inches to 3 inch? Will it effect the performance of the fan?
by|Mar 13, 2016

Answer This Question
A: We advise against going from 6 inches to 3 inches. It will affect the performance of the fan. The smaller duct will reduce air flow and increase the volume.
by|May 3, 2023
A: It could be done, but the actual fan frame is roughly six inches long and it would have to be reduced after that. This means you would still have to enlarge the interior wall opening to accomodate it.

A: I have no idea. I have mine hooked to a motion sensitive switch set for 10 minutes... to exhaust my cats' litter box area... works like a charm. Fans, especially small ones like this aren't big electric users. You furnace blower, heating, range and fridge use LOTS more electric. I'm not worrying about it. It doesn run all the time so...

A: Thank you for your question. We can give you the specification on this model, but you would have to contact your local utility company. This unit has the following specifications:
