    Q:Will this caulk yellow ?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. While ALEX FLEX is considered color fast, it is possible that a starting color match may shift over time, due to environmental exposure. This is true of caulks, sealants, repair fillers, adhesives, and paints/coatings. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Q:I stated I had caulk in my kitchen which was specifically for kitchens and it is talky and collects everything - uncleanable! I want to use a caulk in my bathroom around a door (if you need specifics) that is NOT tacky. I want to know about this product, please answer my question if you can instead of just suggesting a different product. Does anyone know? I do not care for the sticky caulk in my kitchen and want to avoid this problem moving forward. I am NOT asking about kitchen caulking. Thank you. I am not able to edit this - sorry for misspellings.

A:  It's not tacky if you let it dry properly. But it is white caulk, it will get dirty. Regular soap and water should clean it, or look into a different color of caulking.

                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP ALEX FLEX is designed, tested, labeled, and marketed for use as a general-purpose trim and molding sealant, it is not designed, tested, labeled, marketed, or recommended for use as a kitchen and bath sealant. For kitchen and bath applications/projects, we would recommend the use of a specialized kitchen and bath product such as DAP KWIK SEAL ULTRA. When fully dry, KWIK SEAL ULTRA will have a "slick plastic-like" surface. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

                  Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. Low surface energy surfaces (such as slick plastics/composites), require the use of more specialized sealants, such as DAP 3.0 (Hybrid Polymer Chemistry). Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP ALEX FLEX, as well as other similar flexible caulks/sealants, are not considered sandable. Caulks/sealants are intended to be tooled/smoothed (to a cosmetically acceptable finish/appearance) while they are still in their wet form. Should you have additional questions or require additional assistance, please feel free to reach out to DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  Can't think of a reason why you would want to sand either standard or elastomeric type caulking but if the purpose is to lightly scuff it up to prepare for a fresh coat of paint, I see nothing wrong with using 240 grit sandpaper and "very lightly" sanding this product - although I professionally would not do it. I'd rather cut it out and apply a fresh coat of a real trim sealant that doesn't crack, like the DAP Dynaflex 230 - rather than use this product. Once dry, you're all set and ready for paint or to leave as is.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Alex Flex is designed, marketed, labeled, and recommended for use as a general-purpose trim sealant. It is not designed, tested, marketed, labeled, or recommended for use as a primary construction adhesive. For this type of application, we would recommend the use of DAP DYNAGRIP Heavy Duty Max Construction Adhesive. A:  If you want to stick with this line of caulk/sealant, my advice is to spend another buck or two and go with the Dap Dynaflex 230 or better yet, the Dynaflex Ultra products. They're far superior in 'holding power' and I've emptied cases of this stuff on all types of projects. Never let me down yet. I do have to say, I'd likely look at one of the Loctite adhesives for this project, though. Coupled with a few pin nails as appropriate, you should be in good shape. I wouldn't rely on the adhesives/sealants alone, especially in a moisture rich environment like a bathroom.

A:  Yes, as long as you make sure you have clean surfaces for it to adhere to. I have installed some exterior trim with barely a mechanical connection, very small pin size finishing nails, and secured to smooth surface siding and rough sawn cedar timbers on the other surface to lock it all in place. A great product and well worth the money in the long run.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. While DAP ALEX FLEX does not require paint to be applied for performance, the application of a high-quality paint can improve its overall performance, as the paint will offer additional protection to the applied sealant. The issue that you describe, "dirt pick-up", it typically associated with high performance sealants, such as silicone. These. Sealants with high elasticity will generally have a softer/tackier feel, which can result in the issue that you observed. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  Hi JBL, Unlike a 100% silicone based product, these latex elastomeric based caulks don't attract and hold lint and dust anywhere near as much. The cured surface is far less "rubbery" and allows for much easier cleaning.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. As a general rule, most LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) manufacturers recommend the use of 100% Silicone for this application. Of note: 100% silicone is not soap and water clear-up or paintable. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
