Q:is a 2 inch screw ok to use when screwing down 1 inch cedar decking?

A: The decking is probably 3/4 inch thickness which would make the screw length manageable. It is important to remember the type of lumber you are using for your deck joists. These types of screws are made for treated lumber as well. You may want to check to see if the screw color is compatible with your finished deck color. Hope this helps.

You should use a minimum 2-1/2" screw for that purpose. You should have at least 1-1/2" of thread into the lowwer joist.

I used a box to fasten down a 22 ft x 16 foot deck. It took me midway. Fortunately I bought 2 boxes.
