A:  If you want to use this with a gas heater, put this one before the gas one. As a side note, it is very expensive to use this electric heater full time. I own and use this heater because where I live, gas is not available.

Once the 18 KW Smart Pool Heater senses water flow, the control board will display temperature and it will take about 10 mins for the board to send power to the heating element (This process just makes sure that there is no trapped air in the system that will cause the elements to burn-out).
