Q:what are the running amps
by|Oct 11, 2014

Answer This Question

A:  Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. GE freezers (excluding international units) function at 115 VAC, 60 Hz and have approximately a 5 amp draw. Freezers typically draw extra current during start up (approx. two to three times). The freezer should be on a dedicated circuit. This is recommended for best performance and to prevent overloading house wiring circuits. The exact amps that an individual freezer draws is on the rating plate and should be considered if placing the freezer on a generator or other auxiliary power source. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

      Q:Help to maintain freezing temperature
      by|Oct 21, 2013

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Justformetcp-this is Sue from GE. I am happy to provide assistance. Upon initial installation, or when the settings on the temperature controls are changed, it usually takes 24 hours to reach the proper temperature. If the freezer is less than two-thirds full, or the freezer is opened frequently, it may take longer than 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. To ensure that the freezer reaches a stable temperature within 24 hours, fill it 2/3 full with food, or anything else that will take up space and absorb cold (such as plastic jugs filled 2/3 with water). This would not be too much weight for the freezer. Limit door openings during the initial 24-hour period. Thanks for checking with us!

Q:How many pounds of food will this freezer hold?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello KT, Thank you for your inquiry on the GE 24.9 cu. ft. Chest Freezer model # FCM25SBWW. There are many factors that contribute to the volume of food that your freezer will hold including the physical size and shape of each item. In general, a freezer will hold 30 to 35 pounds per Cubic Foot. The maximum amount of food that your freezer can freeze at one time is 3 pounds per Cubic Foot. After allowing 24 hours for that to freeze, you can then add another 3 pounds per Cubic Foot. Should you have any additional question, we are always happy to help! Donna with GE

A:  Hello Nicole, Thank you for your question on the GE Chest Freezer model # FCM25SBWW. The correct operating temperature of chest and upright freezers is -5 to +5 degrees Fahrenheit. It is not designed to consistently maintain lower operating temperatures for extended time. The freezer is not designed for commercial use or storage of non-food items. Donna with GE

            Answer This Question

A:  Hello Eybo, Thank you for your inquiry on the GE Chest Freezer imodel # FCM25SBWW. I will be happy to help! A freezer should always be plugged into its own individual electrical outlet (115 volt, 60 hertz, single phase AC). The freezer should be on a dedicated circuit. This is recommended for best performance and to prevent overloading house wiring circuits. It could cause a possible fire hazard from overheating wires. volts x amps = wattage Start-up amps and wattage are usually 3 times more than running amps or watts. If you are wanting to use a generator, the generator size should be 3000-4500 watts. Have a great day! Donna with GE

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello Seth, Thanks for your inquiry. This is Alison at GE. I am glad to help. All current GE and HPT refrigerators, freezers, compact refrigerators, wine chillers, beverage centers, and icemakers require a 15 amp fuse/breaker (no larger size is necessary). The running amps and volts are listed on all rating plates of the product. If you need this information to run the appliance on a generator; please review the information below: The use of an auxiliary power generator is an individual decision. There are some things to keep in mind when considering use of an auxiliary generator. Voltage and cycles are critical for proper operation of appliances. US power standards are 60 Hz, 120v ac. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners place a high demand upon the power source when cycling on. The running amperage is listed on the rating plate of the appliance. However, the start-up amperage could be as high as 3x the normal running amps. If the voltage is not stable tripping could occur during attempted startups. Any variation in cycles could cause electric clocks to go fast or slow. Generators should be voltage regulated and surge protected for the appliances. Some generators may not be recommended by the generator manufacturer for use with major appliances. GE does not recommend specific generators, only approximate sizes. It is suggested that anyone interested in generator compatibility with a major appliance check the specifications with the generator manufacturers. Below is the approximate size generator needed for each appliance category: APPLIANCE GENERATOR SIZE REFRIGERATORS 3000 - 4500 WATTS FREEZERS 3000 - 4500 WATTS RANGES 26,000 - 40,000 WATTS RANGES (GAS) 1500 - 2500 WATTS MICROWAVES 3000 - 4500 WATTS DISHWASHERS 3000 - 4500 WATTS WASHERS 2000 - 3000 WATTS DRYERS 11000 - 17000 WATTS DRYERS (GAS) 1500 - 2500 WATTS Room Air Conditioner (240V) 9000 - 13500 WATTS Room Air Conditioner (120V) 3000 - 4500 WATTS NOTE: AMPS X VOLTS = WATTS I hope this information is helpful. Let us know if you have further questions. Sincerely, Alison
