Q:WHY DO TRIPPERS KEEP BENDING, RENDERING THEM USELESS
by|Sep 22, 2017

Answer This Question

A:  Their probably not installed right. Make sure each tripper is in the correct slot, Sounds like yours are inward too far to the center, thus hitting something solid, damaging them. You should be able to easily slide them around the yellow "clock", then just snug down (I tighten down just beyond hand tight with a pliers) This is my second timer over 30 plus years, NEVER bent a tripper pin..

A:  The trippers are pretty strong, I've had mine for years, maybe your timer isn't working properly, it shouldn't bend or you are forcing the trippers or constantly moving the trippers.

A:  cause the timer is Crap , just install a manual switch

      Answer This Question

A:  You need to follow your original wire connection, by taking a picture with your cellular phone to install the new water heater timer. It comes with extra tripper and pins, which you can hand tighten to the timer dial to turn it on and off. If, you are not sure about the wire connection, ask a electrician.

A:  Looking at the adjustment pins, it appears the minimum would be ONE HOUR (on / off). That's for either on or off putting the pins as close together as possible..

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  You need to try and connect it to see if it works, use the tripper and pins that come with the timer to set the amount of time, you want to set it.

A:  funny how everybody else gets 240 volts, I measured it with my Fluke VOM Meter at 120 volts and did a visual and seen only one leg of the 240 was hooked to the timer motor

A:  The timer is 240 volts.

            by|May 4, 2023

A:  220v - the clock is wired directly from incoming line.

            by|Oct 8, 2019

A:  You can buy JUST that electric motor as they tend to get noisy over time... A shot of white, spray grease quiet's it up usually. But to answer your question, I believe it's 110 volts.. ( Just curious, what does it really matter??)

              by|May 4, 2023

              A:  220 volts

              by|May 4, 2023

A:  the timer motor uses one leg of the 240 volt so it's 120 volts

A:  Can't see why it would void a guarantee. You don't go inside the water heater to install this. You only interrupt in voltage feeding the WH.

                  by|Apr 2, 2019

A:  No it won't, (unless it's wired in incorrectly)

A:  Good morning. This is something you will need to follow up with your water heater manufacturer on, we are not sure what the parameters of your warranty are. Thanks!

                    by|May 4, 2023

A:  No, it will not void your water heater warranty. Your water heater will last many years longer and save you money on your electricity bill.

A:  You can put the on and off mechanism at different times per day. Otherwise, you can turn off the timer and turn it on when needed.

A:  This is a mechanical timer and only has a 24 hour plate on which to attach the on and off switches. Every day is exactly the same unless the timer is off.

A:  No point with most gas heaters. Gas heaters use a thermopile which generates electricity for the heater to run its sensors and switches. So they usually don't have electrical connections. If yours does, it is something I am not familiar with.

Q:is the manual lever in on or off position for the automatic times to work

                            Answer This Question

A:  The lever when extended through the cover slot when cover is closed, is for you to manually override the preset times and an indicator to show the heater is either "on" or "off". I feel it doesn't matter which position it is due to the on / off mechanical trippers will move it at the proper on/off pre-set times "IF" electrical hook up is correct for clock to operate. The attached to door wire hook up to assigned terminals is simple to follow.

A:  The manual lever has no seperate control. It is just an extension of the on/off switching that is controlled by the switches on the clock face. If the unit is off, turning it on via manual will then leave it on while the auto-on switch engages and will stay on til the auto-off switch engages. Same for the off. If it is currently on then turning it off via the manual switch will leave it off until the next auto-on switch is reached.

A:  Once your adjustable on / off clips are in and the clock rotates, it'll turn itself off (and stay off) until the "start clip" kicks it on... The switch, at this point can be manually turned on for more hot water if needed, but again, the OFF CLIP, will flip the lever back to off..

A:  Hello Habib ! The lever will be in both spots throughout any given day. As the timer wheel moves through it's 24 hour cycle, the lever will move to the on position during the time set for it to turn on, and will then move to the off position as the wheel moves into a period which it is to be off. You can also turn your water heater on manually at any time during the day if additional heating is desired. The heater will then be turned off once the timer reaches the time of day to be off, or you can manually turn it off if you desire. It will then return to heating again at the set time to turn on.

A:  I am currently using the unit to run my 240V pool pump. As long as your a/c does not exceed 40 amps you should be fine.

                              by|May 4, 2023

A:  It is a timer. You can wire it to control whatever you want up to the specifications limits (240V 40Amps). It just sets when the appliance will have power to it, much like flipping the breaker in your breaker panel.

A:  Don't see why not. The water heater pulls a bunch of AMPS running, more than the A/C. If you have a FULL A/C system (outside and inside units), I would NOT be using it as both units need power to operate.

Q:We have FPL's on call on our hot water heater so I can't impede it's operation. but I want to put this time clock after their on call system where they can shut the power off to my hot water heater periodically. I want to restrict it even more so I can shut it off even if they have already shut it off so the time clock needs to be between their system and the hot water heater. I only have two leads and a ground coming from their system so do I place each one of them on terminal 1 (Line) & terminal 3 (Line) then the new wires from the new wire whip to the hot water heater to terminal 2 (load 1) and terminal 2 (load 2) grounding both ovbiously?

A:  The timer's motor must be powered constantly, or it stop and will fall behind during the FPL system OFF times. So you cannot place this timer after the FPL system.
