Q:The unit says it's rated for 12 amps, the unit I bought is pulling 14.25 amp continuously when on cool and blows a 15 a circuit breaker when it throttles up and down. Works fine on a 20 Amp circuit but don't have one in my living room. Is this normal?

Answer This Question
A: Hi, there! If your LG 10,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Portable Air Conditioner, model LP1021BSSM is consistently drawing more current (14.25 amps) than its rated value (12 amps) and trips a 15-amp circuit breaker, it may indicate a potential issue with the unit or the electrical circuit.
Here are some considerations:
- Exceeding the Rated Amperage: Continuously drawing more amperage than the rated value can indicate a problem with the air conditioner. It may be due to a malfunction, a wiring issue, or excessive load on the unit.
- Circuit Breaker: A 15-amp circuit breaker should be able to handle an appliance rated at 12 amps. If the circuit breaker consistently trips when the air conditioner cycles, it suggests that there may be an issue with the air conditioner, such as an electrical short or a compressor problem.
- Compatibility: Ensure that the unit is plugged into a dedicated outlet with a properly functioning 15-amp circuit breaker. Avoid using extension cords or multiple devices on the same circuit, as this can overload it.
- Professional Inspection: Given the potential electrical safety concerns and the need to diagnose the exact issue, it's advisable to have the air conditioner inspected by a qualified technician. They can assess the unit for any defects, perform electrical testing, and address any wiring or component issues.
In summary, consistently exceeding the rated amperage and tripping a circuit breaker when using your LG LP1021BSSM portable air conditioner is not normal and may indicate an issue with the unit or the electrical circuit. It's recommended to have the unit inspected by a professional technician to ensure safe and proper operation. ^Danee

Q:Can this be used without a window vet? Or be installed in a room with a sliding glass door?
by|Aug 8, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Hi, Lynn. The LG 10,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Portable Air Conditioner, model LP1021BSSM is a portable air conditioner model from LG. Portable air conditioners are designed to be placed inside a room and do not require a permanent window vent installation like traditional window air conditioners.
Portable air conditioners work by venting hot air out of the room through a flexible exhaust hose that is typically attached to a window venting kit. The window venting kit allows the hot air to be directed outside while cooling the indoor air.
The purpose for attaching the flexible exhaust hose to the window vent panel is so you can expel all that hot-moisture laden air that the air conditioner extracts from the room to the outside. Without the flexible hose, the portable air conditioner would just be recycling all that hot, moisture-laden air back into the room. If you don't have access to a traditional window, and if you have a sliding glass door, it will be your own discretion to use a specially designed sliding glass door vent kit that allows you to install the exhaust hose securely in the door's gap.
Before purchasing a portable air conditioner, it's essential to consider the venting options available in the room where you plan to use it. Be sure to check the manufacturer's recommendations and guidelines for proper venting, as well as any venting kits or accessories that are compatible with the specific portable air conditioner model you are considering. ^Danee

Q:What are your options for when it rains? Is that something I should be concerned about if the window isn't coverd? Thanks
by|Jul 27, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Hello, Josiah! The top and bottom sides of the window vent panel assembly have foam weather seals for these kinds of situations, and to mitigate any rain coming into the unit, be sure to shape the diffuser end of the vent hose into an inverted U shape just inside the window to allow any rain or condensation to drain out of the window. ^ian
