A:  It's 3" wide where the screw goes.

A:  Put a couple toothpicks in the hole which will hold the screws...you can fill the backside with caulk, and paint, thus making the old holes disappear

A:  When pre drilling holes, never make the hole bigger than the center part( shank) of the screw. Do not drill the hole the size of the threads because it obviously does not hold because the threads have nothing to bite.

A:  This particular handle attaches with the wood screws provided, directly into the wood. It would not be suitable for pre drilled holes.

A:  You'll have to go purchase some bolts to make them work then, these handles are designed and sold as surface mount, sounds like you need a through bolt for you application

A:  I don't see why not. I would probably spray it with a clear sealer to prevent corrosion (you can even use nail polish) But it's well made, so you shouldn't have a problem.

A:  I do not think that would be a good idea. It is a small pull designed for kitchen cabinets and I doubt that the finish would hold up to the weather. Something like the Everbilt 7-1/2 in. Black Heavy Duty Gate Pull (Model # 20464 Internet #203561797 Store SKU #568426) would probably be a better choice.
