      A:  I'm not sure the 4 panels will remain rigid and fixed in place without the arch. It holds the 4 panels together in a square. Otherwise, it collapses.

          Q:Do you need to build a foundation to set this on ie with paving blocks or cement, or can it go directly on grass?

          A:  This pen is close enough to the ground that you don't need a solid base and a dog can't squeeze out from under. However, if you have a dog that likes to dig, a grass base will not prevent that. I've had mine for several years (5?) and the cover has held up until recently despite being outside. I really like this pen as I have small dogs, but I have it located on a concrete pad which I had prior to getting it. That makes it easy to hose out any pooping. Since I'm going to build a greenhouse on the concrete pad, I will be moving this and using pavers inside for the floor to prevent digging out - which some of my ankle-biters will definitely do!

            A:  If you want to, but I put it together and put in 4 inches of pea gravel and framed outside of base with 2x4's for keep pea gravel maintained inside kennel area.
