Q:First time home owner and not so handy. Looking to replace a bedroom ceiling light/light switch with ceiling fan w/light kit and this control switch. The home is 2018 build. My question is am most likely going to need to run an extra wire for the fan or will all the wiring be there?

A: No - Not easy to install

A: If the wires were initially run with no intention of installing a ceiling fan, you may not have enough wires for this control to work. This control would require 2 separate switch legs (one of the fan and one for the light) as well as a hot wire to feed power to the control.

A: Hi CluelessHomeowner, Hard to tell without seeing what is there, but all homes I wired had both a two switches in all bedrooms going from ceiling to switches so had one switch for light and one for fan so the Diva would work but would leave one switch location blank but that is ok. To see what you have would need to open switch location and you would need to see if you have wire colors black, white, red and green or bare wire, if you have that then this will work. If not you would been to replace wire from ceiling box to switch

Q:Does this work as a dimmer for the light?

A: The DVFSQ-LF will only switch the light on/off and control the fan speed. If you would like to dim the light and control the fan speed, Lutron would suggest the MACL-LFQ-WH.

Q:So when I turn on the paddle switch, the light comes on, and the plug is energized. When I turn the paddle switch off, the plug is deenergized. However, voltage to plug fluctuates and the box fan I plug in won't work.

A: Hi SaulTrain,
It sounds as if you have this switch wired incorrectly. The paddle portion of this combination switches is simply on/off. The slider is a separate switch and controls fan speed. 120vac gets connected to the black wire. The red wire goes to the fan motor and is for
VARIABLE speed. The yellow wire goes to light and is CONSTANT voltage.

A: What do you mean by "tie paddle switch with a plug"? Why are you using a plug somewhere in this circuit? Need more info to answer question. In general, a voltage fluctuation might indicate a loose connection.

Q:I have one switch controlling two outdoor fans with lights in a covered location. Will this switch work as advertised?

Answer This Question
A: Bob,
This switch will work as long as the necessary hard wires are in place for separate fan and light control. There must be separate hot wires run for each. For example, typically a 14-3 wire having a white, black and red conductor would have been run to the fan when the original wiring was done. The white is neutral. The black wire would control the fan and the red wire would control the light. If you do not have these wires this switch will not work.

A: as long as you have 4 wires going to your fan and the switch will not get water it will work
by|May 5, 2023
A: Hi Bob T, From what you said not will not work as you need existing one switch for fan and one for light. So in the switch box to the light need a 4 wire w/ground, assume is romex so would be 12 or 14/3 romex cable

A: This product is only rated to control a single fan and is not recommended to be used in an application with two or more fans wired to a single switch.

Q:Will this work with a Hunter fan that has a remote and a receiver? I have a Hunter 59252 and I want to add a wall control in addition to being able to use the remote that comes with the fan.

Answer This Question
A: Normally, when a fan already has a receiver installed, the receiver will block 3rd party controls. Due to this fact, Lutron would recommend contacting Hunter to see if this is the case for your specific fan.
by|May 4, 2023
A: it will work as long you have 4 wires going to your fan and you remove the transmitter from the fan.
which means you will no longer use the wireless control
by|May 5, 2023
A: Probably not without running a separate power wire from the switch location to the the fan.

Q:Does this work with 2-wires to ceiling outlet?
by|May 29, 2017

Answer This Question
A: If the two wires running to your ceiling outlet are separate switched legs for the fan motor and the light kit this control will work. However if you only have two wires in the wall box location where the fan control is being installed and one of them is providing the line voltage, this control would not work.

A: Hi Rod no need 3 wires, power, an return wires for fan and light. Current codes require neutral in box, then you also should have a ground wire
