Q:will it cut hardibacker

A: No this is not the same shear as the one for Hardie products
by|May 6, 2023
A: These are for metal and will not do a good job with Hardie board. You would want shears that are specific for Hardie. The concept is similar, but they are two different tools. I'm not sure if Milwaukee makes cement board shears, but Makita does. I purchased them for a siding project and they work well.

A: No, this definitely won't cut anything that thick. There are special shears for hardie-plank siding though. I recommend three score and snap method for all hardie products; it's easier, quicker, cleaner, and best of all cheaper. Any utility blade will do.

Q:would like to use this for gutter work; any advice?

Answer This Question
A: The blades last a good while. I've had my shears for over 2 years and haven't had to replace the blades yet and I've been using them primarily on sheet steel (rectangular ductwork, general sheet metal, etc).
Regarding gutter work, these work best on flat surfaces or surfaces with a slight, non-compound curves. Something like a gutter with an ogee profile with tight curves and angles would be a little difficult if you're looking to cut straight sections of gutter to length. The also don't cut in to corners very well. These shears are also quite large compared to a typical gutter, so cutting openings for things like downspouts would be tight.
If it were me, this isn't the tool I'd buy for gutter work. Hope this helps.

A: I found this question here buying another sheer. The first one I bought cut 644 12x12in holes in 22ga galvanized sheet steel with original blades. Almost a half mile. Look for Kett Tools for replacements.

A: Yes. It will go down to 18 gauge, which is much heavier than 26 gauge. I use mine for 20 and 22 gauge material all the time with no issues.
