A:  I would say “no” because the rubber gasket will eventually crack; but perhaps if it is lubricated well with silicone lube, it may work. I recommend asking this question to Oatey (the manufacturer).

A:  No, don't even attempt to use this for a permanent seal. You are best using a "lead" tapered plug which will hold up better

A:  • Silicone grease is safe and compatible with natural rubber and it will help keep it soft - this is recommended. • Any grease with mineral oil base will degrade the natural rubber • "White lithium grease" is a general term - unless you know its composition for sure, I would advise keeping it away from natural rubber. • Plumbers Putty is not a lubricant or water proof product. Definitely not recommended. • Whatever your preferred product will be, please make sure it is compatible with natural rubber

A:  While many contractors use a simple balled-up clothe to temporarily cover up vent and sewer lines this test plug can also be used for the same purpose. Just remember the goal is to prevent sewer gas from venting into the house so torqueing down isn't really necessary and even counter-productive

A:  They don't call it 3inch for nothing...that's the minimum. Now max diameter could be larger as tightened but it's highly unlikely your pipe is 3.25" in dia.
