Answer This Question
A: When filling the waterer, be sure that the base is tightly secure. Then, quickly flip the waterer right side up. It is normal for the glass jar to appear less full as some of the water will fill up the tray.

Q:How does water get out of the jar without overflowing the base? Kind of a basic question but it wasn't in the product description or any of the reviews that I read.
Thanks!

A: When the jar is filled and flipped right side up, a vacuum will be created in the bottle, which prevents too much water from flowing out.

A: That's a good question. One, I'm sure, that involves physics. It just works. Fill the jar, flip it, water fills the base and stops when it should .. it doesn't overflow.

A: The main reason it gets to the base is because of gravity. The base is also designed to hold only so much, so when the base is full, no more fluid goes there until the hummers drink it, or it evaporates. It never overflows, and is also quite easy to clean. It will never over flow.

A: Once the base has filled up there is no place for the water in the feeder to go so that water stays and seeps into the base as needed.

A: The deep base screws onto the jar. When you turn it over the water flows into the base!

Q:#1 - What Material is the metal base made of? Stainless, aluminum, galvanized steel?
#2 - Can a normal mason jar be used with the base, or is the size/threading different?

A: Galvanized steel, but do not know if a normal mason jar would fit. On the top of this jar there is a lip that the metal wraps under so that it can be hung, which is not on a normal mason jar, therefore you would not be able to hang.

A: Galvanized steel..... size/threading is different and no hanger on a mason jar. Bought the waterer so I could replace the jar on a seed feeder

A: The bottom is made of plastic. We thought that would be the first part to break or crack not the glass jar itself! I haven’t tried a normal mason jar on it. Not sure the hanging part would work on a normal jar either.

A: The base of this feeder is made with powder coated, galvanized steel. We apologize as the mason jar is not interchangeable.
