Q:Why do people recomend not walking bare footed on this mat.

A: Bristles are very coarse/stiff--as for cleaning mud from shoes--and would be uncomfortable to a bare foot.

A: I imagine you can walk on it barefoot, but it's made made for exterior or entrance use, to catch mud, dirt and snow from your shoes and boots. However, the rubber fingers will not hurt your feet, if you do walk on it barefoot.
