Q:Can you use the chalk smoke decorative glaze on top of the chalk paint on a tile fireplace?
by|Nov 2, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out, Audrey. While our Rust-Oleum Chalked Decorative Glaze can be applied as a top coat for our Chalked Paint, we do not recommend applying to surfaces that can exceed 200° F. Doing so can cause the paint to crack and peel.

Answer This Question
A: We're happy to help. For the safest application of Rust-Oleum Interior Chalk Paint, our recommendation is to leave items in a well ventilated area for one week after painting. This allows for the most complete curing as well as maximum coating hardness. As with any coating product, care should be taken to ensure that accidental ingestion does not occur.

Q:My can of Aged Gray was not put into the shake-up machine at the store. Is it important to have it professionally shaken up? How long would I need to stir it with a wood paddle to be sure the chalk solution is combined completely?

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out! When stirring Rust-Oleum Ultra Matte Chalked Paint, it is more important that any settled pigment is incorporated into the paint. Care should be taken to stir along the bottom and edges. Typically, once the paint is one consistent color, that will indicate that it is mixed.

Q:Do I have to prime or strip old paint off before using this?
by|Aug 31, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Ultra Matte Chalked Paint can be applied over most previously painted surfaces. You will need to remove any loose or peeling paint prior to recoating. If the existing paint is a contrasting color, you may consider priming to help with coverage. We recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer!

Q:is there any color paint or stain I can add to linen white chalked paint to create Aged Gray? I have lots left over of linen and really want to paint an old coffee table a gray color over the white to create a driftwood gray look.

Answer This Question
A: We appreciate your interest! Since Rust-Oleum Ultra Matte Chalked Paint is already pretinted, we do not recommend adding any additional tint or pigment to this paint, as it will prevent the product from properly drying. If wanting a more custom color, different colors from this product line can be mixed together. We do not recommend mixing with other paints or stains.

Q:Can I use Rust-Oleum chalked glaze over acrylic paint?
by|Jul 2, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Happy to help, Lois! While, Rust-Oleum Chalked Decorative Glaze should be able to go over acrylic paint, we recommend applying in a test area first. The painted surface needs to have some texture as well to ensure the glaze has somewhere to adhere to. Make sure the previous paint has fully dried prior to applying the glaze.

Q:Can you use a roller for this instead of a beush
by|Jun 18, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Happy to help, Dori! For best results, apply Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte Paint with a high quality synthetic brush, roller application is not recommended. Use light, even brush strokes to ensure even flow and the smoothest finish. Avoid excessive brushing as this will reduce film thickness and protection.

by|Jun 17, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Great question, Joanna! Rust-Oleum Chalked Decorative Glaze is dry to the touch after 8 hours. Note that this time can increase based on the temperature, humidity, and thickness of coat. While it may dry to the touch in 8 hours, the paint is not fully cured until 7 days after application.
