A: yes! I use them all the time with mine
A: Thank you for reaching out, Katie! Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint is suitable for use with chalk markers. Please keep in mind that since these markers are water-based and they are cleaned up with water, the surface may need to be refreshed more often for the best results. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
A: In my experience chalkboard markers seem to be the best.
A: Yes, the chalkboard paint has the same characteristics as a normal chalkboard.
A: Yes, it does work with chalkboard markers. Thats what I used it with and it worked great. Just make sure it dries very well before you use the markers!
A: it is liquid well over 3 oz and you will need to place it with checked baggage. place the can in a well sealed plastic bag as pressure changes may cause the lid to loosen. Check with the airlines prior to checking in to make sure there are no restrictions on placing it in your luggage, even though it is not flammable.
A: Thank you for your response! The quart-sized Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint weighs about 2.7 pounds, however, we recommend contacting the airline you are traveling with to confirm that paint can be transported in checked baggage. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
A: Thank you for reaching out, Kristie! Chalk markers can be used with Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint if desired. However, keep in mind that the surface will need to be wiped with water to help remove these marks, and the more the surface is wiped with water, the more often the surface will need to be recoated or touched up. Also keep in mind that the use of the clear coating will add another coat on the surface and lessen the magnetic affect of the primer. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
A: OK good
A: Yes, you can put the clear coat chalkboard paint, by the way, this is a brilliant idea to put the magnet paint behind the chalk paint. Write and stick. It is a plus that you put 3 coats of the magnetic paint however remember the more layers you put on top of it will weaken the magnetic pull. You can put the clear coat but you will need stronger magnetics to hold to the board.
A: 3 days.
A: To be on teh safe side I would wait 24 hrs.
A: Great question, Lin! After 3 days, the surface is ready for use. To ensure the best erasability with Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint, the surface must be conditioned before use and conditioned every time after the surface is washed. The surface can be conditioned by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface and erasing. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
A: Immediately after it dries. You will have no problems.
A: You can write on it immediately. As long as the paint is completely dry.
A: This product takes two to four hours to fully dry and ready for use.
A: We appreciate your interest, Patty. Rust-Oleum Specialty Clear Chalkboard can be applied to wood, metal, masonry, drywall, plaster, glass, concrete, paperboard, and hardwood. However, we don't recommend applying it to canvas because the flexibility of the surface will cause the paint to crack. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
A: Yes, you may want to apply a primer first.
A: I do not know, but I cannot see why not if you prime it first since paint on smooth or shiny surfaces tends not to stick. I would read the mfg. directions.
A: Yes, this product can be used on glass.
A: Good question, Franny. Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint can certainly be applied to glass surfaces. Just make sure to lightly sand glossy surfaces. Then clean with soap and water, rinse, and let dry before application. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
A: Sure, I do not see any reason why not. this stuff pretty much has stuck to everything I have ever painted it on
A: We like the way you think, Steve! To ensure full coverage and adhesion of Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint over the surface, we recommend first priming and sealing the surface. Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer would be a great choice for this! https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-qt-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2004/100398398 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
A: It is not clear if the foam board you are referring to has an unfinished foam surface or a paperboard surface (like posterboard covering a foam core). I have not had good luck with applying paint to polystyrene or other foam products. The paint seems to alter the surface consistency. I have never been able to make it come out smoothly. Sometimes, the foam is completely destroyed. The foam insulation products carried by Home Depot have some panels that have a reflective tinfoil type surface. Since that is non porous, priming should work. If the foam panel is covered in a plastic vapor barrier, I do not believe that you would be able to get an acceptable surface. I assume that you are using the foam product so that you can secure tracks and accessories to the foam. If your plan is to write with chalk on the painted surface, I do not believe that you could get proper adhesion of the paint to the underlying material. The color and low sheen are very good for your application as long as you will not be using chalk on it.
A: Coca Cola pop straight no water. Looks good as new!
A: I just use a old kitchen towel or wash cloth with mine. Don't use paper towels as that just causes a mess!
A: A damp paper towel also works.
A: a rag will be sufficient but an calkboard eraser would work best.
A: Happy to help! The Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalked Board Paint coating can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. A chalk eraser can be used as well. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
A: If the wall is a gloss finish I would either use a primer or lightly sand the area you are wanting to put the chalkboard paint on. If it is a flat paint on your wall you should not have any problem, however, a primer is alway recommended
A: No. This stuff is thick. I have never needed a primer
A: No, I applied some to my wall and I did not add primer.
A: We are here to help, Jason! If applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint to a previously painted surface, a primer is not needed. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
A: No, this stuff is really thick.
A: I do not know the color code. You can buy the paint, then paint a piece of hardboard, drywall, or wood that you have first painted or sprayed with a primer. Take that piece of material to the paint department at your local Home Depot and they will match it exactly. The closer your sample is to the actual surface you will be painting, the closer the painted color will be on your project. There are thousands of hues and shades of green and the underlying surface makes a huge difference in how true the color looks. Painting over a white primed surface will give you a different look than if it is over a black or gray primed surface. I would suggest that painting chalkboard paint of any kind over existing latex paint in a kid's room with chalkboard paint will probably not be satisfactory. Priming may seem like an unnecessary step but that extra work makes all the difference especially if you are painting over painted drywall which almost always sucks all of the life out of the paint. Priming helps adhesion and the smoothness of the final project. For this particular type of application, a built in primer in the tinted paint may not give you the durable surface you want.
A: We appreciate your interest, May. Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint in Flat Green is a custom color and does not have a color code available. Please keep in mind that the color on our paint cans and spray paint caps is a good indicator the final finish. We hold all of our paints to a tight color standard. We recommend testing the product in an inconspicuous area first to ensure it is the finish you are looking for. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
