Goes on too thick from brush
Used this product on both a child’s desk and a wall. Both were primed and lightly sanded prior to application. Applied first coat using a brush. Product was well stirred prior to use. Product wanted to remove the previous brush strokes when trying to overlap strokes. Also started dripping/running. Tried to feather out drips, but it just removed the product and left streaks down to the primer. Waited 4 hours to sand. Used both rough and finishing grit paper, could not get drip smooth. Applied second coat with 3/8 microfiber roller. Went on better, but thick and grumpy so roller wouldn’t roll.
The desk ended up decent, but the wall doesn’t look great at all.

We appreciate your feedback on the Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint. While thinning is not required, you can thin the product up to 2 oz of water per quart to help extend the dry time. You can also try a 1/4'' good quality roller for application to see if that helps. At this time, you can lightly sand the surface with a 180 or 200 grit sandpaper to smoothen out the surface. After doing so, wipe down the surface to remove any of the sanding debris. You'll want to allow the paint to sit about 4 hours before recoating. We hope this helps! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

This was exactly what my daughter was looking for. If you have a light colored wall right now you do not need a primer. My daughters wall was beige and we did not use a primer we just made sure we did two coats of paint and let it dry for three days.

Great effect
I had an idea of painting the door in the basement so it can be used for making notes, writing up the exercise plan etc. The instructions are best on the manufacturer's website. Read them carefully, as failing to read them properly will make your blackboard look bad. I used a latex primer and then two coats of the chalkboard paint. it is easy to go on but it dries pretty quickly so make sure you are all set as you need to finish a coat in one go. Cleaning before and smoothing the surface is important but small dents while not looking pretty do not make it unusable.

Great product for kids rooms
This is the second time we have used this product. Both times we have put the magnetic paint under it so they can use magnets on it too. The paint goes on very easily with a foam roller. If you use the magnetic paint first read the instructions on it and on this paint to see how they are to be applied.
