A:  Hi Susan, Yes, to fully utilize the automatic ice maker that is equipped with this Samsung refrigerator model, a water line is needed. In addition, if the plumbing/water line is difficult to install in your basement, the automatic ice maker can be disabled to avoid damage to it while the entire refrigerator is in operation.
