A:  Hi there, Yes, these flame colors are normal—parts of the flame, such as the tips, may be yellow, orange, or purple. Yellow tips are more common when liquid propane is used. Flames can turn yellow (or appear orange) if there is less oxygen in the air. This can be caused by humidity (especially if there is a humidifier anywhere in the home) or if the wind is blowing (such as from an air conditioner or hood). But the center burner was designed to be used with pots or pans with a bottom diameter of about 6 inches or less on the center grate. This cookware may tip over.
