Q:I am happy with this toilet but the time has come to replace the soft close elongated seat. Saniflo doesn't seem to sell them and I am getting a measurement of 18 1/8" which is a bit shorter than typical. What does work? Thanks.

Answer This Question

A:  Although Saniflo is a European company, they specifically use toilets s drilled to accommodate American style seats. Therefore, your question has me at a loss. However, if you don’t find a seat you like give us a call. The seats are not what I would call special but if you really like the fit, I am sure we have a few in stock as replacement parts and would be happy to make one available. Chris 978 651 3300

Q:Well, this unit keep up to a portable wash machine

    Answer This Question

A:  Although you can tie a lavatory sink and tub or shower into this unit, the manufacturer, Saniflo recommends against tying a washing machine into this pump. They recommend that a washing machine be serviced by a its own pump. A pump of a different design that is intended for that application. The pump they offer for this application is the Sani Swift model 021. If you expand this section, you will find PDFs of the product documents. The Sani Swift can be found on page 36 of the Product Brochure. Pumps are rated on graphs called pump curves. On one axis you have flow rate and on the other height of lift. The graph illustrates a pumps performance across its operating range. If you can find the discharge rate of the washer and the amount you need to lift the water, you can consult the curve to see what a pumps capacity is when lifting water to the needed height and compare that figure with the discharge rate of the washer.

Q:Considering that the .5 hp pump is roughly only $200 cheaper, am I better off going with the 1 hp version and having more hp than required for the task, or is there a downside to my thought process that I'm unaware of?

      Answer This Question

A:  Pumps aren’t really rated in horsepower, motors are. Two different pumps driven by motors of the same horsepower can have vastly different performance depending on their impeller and volute design. It’s unfortunate that pump companies began marketing around HP as it does not tell consumers intuitively what they think it does. Pumps are rated on graphs called pump curves. On one axis you have flow rate and on the other the total vertical height of lift. The graph illustrates pump performance across its operating range. You want to first calculate the height of your proposed lift. We call this the head. The length of the run does not really matter. It’s all about fighting gravity. Then scroll down the Home Depot product listing page to the section entitled Product Details. If you expand that section, you will find PDFs of the product documents. If you open the specification sheet you will find the pump curve on the second page. See if the pump has the necessary flow rate given the heigh of your lift. With that said I would use the 1 HP unit. Not because of the 1 HP I am not being a hypocrite. I would choose that because it’s a grinder pump. Grinder pumps are designed to chew up solids. If someone flushes something they shouldn’t, a grinder is more likely capable of emulsifying it and passing it on. I consider them a must in certain commercial applications where you have no control over what people flush. Chris 978 651 3301

        Answer This Question

A:  This unit must be plugged in and includes a cord. As mentioned by the other reviewer it must be plugged into a GFCI receptable.

        by|Sep 21, 2023

A:  This pump comes with an electrical cord. It should only be plugged into outlets that are protected by GFCI ground fault circuit interruption.

Q:This states that toilet seat is not included but the manufacturer's direct site states this kit does and the other Home Improvement store says it is included as well for the same price; is the toilet seat included or not?

            Answer This Question

A:  Saniflo does include a toilet seat with this product. I do not know why these listings consistently get modified to recommend the purchase of a Church toilet seat. We have had these removed in the past but it keeps happening. My apologies. Thank you for asking your question and letting me know. I will have it corrected.

Q:Adding a toilet upstream from an existing 2" shower & sink lateral that grades 75' to the street along with a washing machine and slop sink. The only new fixture at the furthest end of the lateral line will be this toilet. Pump size a concern?

              Answer This Question

A:  Based on your statement I do not believe I can effectively envision your installation well enough to offer a definitive answer and don’t want to give you bad information. So let me respond in a different way. Pumps are rated on graphs called pump curves. On one axis you have height and on the other you flow rate. The curve illustrates pump performance across the possible scenarios within its performance range. Pumps fight gravity and the higher you lift the fluid the less fluid they are able to move. First I would calculate what flow rate you need. Second the height of the lift. Then look at the pump curve to see if the pump will supply the correct performance in that application. If you scroll down the Home Depot product listing page you will come to a section entitled Product Details where you will find PDF’s of product documents. If you open the installation guide you will find the pump curve on page 2 labeled as figure 5. Next to it figure 6 Saniflo provides another table. It gives the limitation for runs following different heights of lift.

A:  These emails are routed to the supplier not to Home Depot. I am pretty good at technical questions and I am a plumber by trade. But I am not well versed at pricing strategy. I am always amazed at how similar prices are. Typically the pricing computers make them match exactly. I will send an email to product manager of this product so they are aware. Thank you for your feedback it is appreciated. I understand. I will pass on the information and I am sure they will address it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

A:  we installed this toilet about two years ago. Hid the grinder in the wall and left access panel on on back side.  We have had to service the pump so highly recommend leaving access.
