Q:Can I use Krylon paint on the inside of a bird bath?
by|Mar 9, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  We cant really say if your bird bath will take Krylon paint, since we dont know what bird bath you have and Krylon is not our product. However the K&H De-icer is paintable and the Krylon website says that "once dry, the sprayed coating is considered safe for handling and nontoxic".

Q:Does this unit have low water shut off?

    Answer This Question

A:  There are no external switches on unit. I see nothing in the manual about it being included in this unit. However my birdbath is about 3-4" deep. I dump, clean, refill every week. My unit is now 1 year old and have had no issues

    by|Dec 9, 2019

A:  No, it does not. The Ice Eliminator is designed to be submerged in water at all times. If you believe the bird bath will run dry on a regular basis, then please unplug it. If it is only going to happen a couple times a year, that shouldn't be an issue as long as it doesn't run for days outside of water.

A:  The cord on the unit is only about 8" or so long. I have no choice but to run an extension cord from my shed to the birdbath. Had to do that with my previous device. Have never had an issue.

A:  MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product. Temporary use of a UL listed cord is fine, but consult your electrician for the proper cord for your application. For more information on MET safety testing, please visit their website at www.metlabs.com.

A:  These de-icers are not heaters, they are thermostatically controlled to prevent ice buildup and will turn on and off as needed.

A:  It will not get to hot. The deicer keeps it at a liquid state. Not hot. It's great. You should get one. Birds love the fresh water.

A:  We have ours in a glass bowl. The water is always cool to the touch. And never any ice on the top. So far we really like it, as well as the birds.

A:  Mine is in a concrete bird bath about 3" deep. The unit isn't even warm to touch. Not sure how it works as far as keeping the water from freezing. Wouldn't think it would case a problem in a copper birdbath but not sure.

A:  We have ours in a glass bowl, the water does not get to hot. Just keeps it from freezing, I feel the water and it is still very cool to the touch.

A:  I do believe we received the 80 watt unit when we ordered it. We ordered 2 of these. Never know when the extra will come in handy for something else. The price is reasonable.
