Answer This Question

A:  You can always order this online and have it shipped to your local store for free. The process is easy to complete and very efficient. Home Depot's return policy applies to orders placed online so the process is also risk free. Good luck, I've had excellent results using this device to control my propagation mats.

Q:Will this retain temperature setting during a power loss?

Answer This Question

A:  I use this Thermostat with heat pads to improve germination in my greenhouse and the results have been wonderful. To get an answer to your question I changed the temperature settings on my Viagro Heat Mat Thermostat and then unplugged the device for about a minute or two. I did this three or four times. Each time when I plugged it back in it maintained my settings. So yes, it maintains settings during a power loss. Nice to know.

A:  Thank you for your question. If the power goes out and comes back on your temperature setting is saved and will default to the temperature that you set it to. Sincerely, Viagrow

Q:How many heating mats can this work with at a time?

    Answer This Question

A:  This thermostat only comes with one plug, but I believe there is a 4-plug model available as well.

A:  There's one plug so to work with multiple mats you'd have to put a power bar in line. Downside is that there is only one temperature probe so the controller would only be able to sense the temp of one flat.

A:  Some folks are saying it only has one plug thus how can you use it for 3 mats. My mats daisy chain together and then the last one is what you plug into the thermostat. The manufacturer will indicate how many can be safely plugged in but like someone else mentioned - if you have to cover a large area - try and find the largest mat to fit your situation. You can find them up to 8’ long. I really like digital mat thermostats vs mats that you are stuck with as factory set. I wish Home Depot had the right description (vs Diatomite) so you could tell what the thermostat’s high and low temp is and how accurate it is. I searched the product and in most places, the same wrong description about a nutrient is all I could find. I could locate a company called Viagrow either - maybe it is HomeDepots own brand (don’t know). For example, mine can be set from 41-88 F and is capable of controlling the temp of your potting mix to within 1 degree. Keep in mind that most manufacturers recommend not to use them in a room below a certain temperature (usually not below 40 F). So if you live in a cold area - you will need to get your basic room temp up to a decent range - propagation mats aren’t room heaters, just root/soil warmers. I have found the mats to be extremely helpful for cuttings, seed growing and even for cold sensitive plants (orchids etc) that just need a little root warmth. That said many (even now) don’t have a digital thermostat like this one and you just go with the factory setting - nowhere to change. These digital thermostats enable it to be easier to add a little or a lot of heat as needed. You can also usually find ones that are made for commercial use to last a longer period of time. So look around before settling on a specific mat and thermostat. You just have to locate their website and then if they don’t sell direct, find their vendors. Some mats allow you to daisy chain up to 5 mats. If you find what you want, ask a Home Depot rep if they carry what you are looking for or if they can order it for you. I have done that several times and it will usually come right to your door. And I don’t think they charge shipping bit comfirm that. It just seems that was the case. Hope this helps someone.

A:  The controller has only one outlet and I personally choose to connect a larger mat rather than connect more than one mat. That being said, the controller is rated at a maximum output of 1000 watts. The number of mats that you can connect depends upon the total draw of all the mats you are connecting.
